It depends on what I am cooking. For dinner preparation, I measure with my hand and have been doing it for so long that I feel comfortable with it. Many baking recipes are more exacting. If I'm baking a cake, I usually grab the spoon for measuring.

Well I think that it depends on how much salt is being added. Even when cooking, the use of the salt shaker is fine, and you can see how much is being put it just the same if not better, sometimes it's easy to be wasteful when put into the hand as you may put too much, or too little, and then either need more, or have to put back what you can, possibly spilling some, and the rest washed off from your hand. Like I said though, it depends on the dish as to whether using the salt shaker is fine, or the hand, or spoon.

I use my hands even in recipies that calls for so much amount of salt, I trust my han pinching skills than any cookbook...the reason I do this is because apart from salt, I also ise garlic salt and seasoning salt in my stews and other gravies, so I am the best judge when it comes to the final taste.

I pour in the salt in with a spoon, as I know I won't get my hands cacked with salt if they are wet with not a towel in sight, and I can always shake some off, making it fall back into the container if I have miscalculated the amount

I have always used a measureing spoon to measure salt when i add it to a recipe, but if you watch the cooking shows they always put it in with their hand. But then you see then with little bowls of spices setting out. Where we have our spices in cans or containers. I guess if you cook every day for big bunches then you can get to the point that you can be about sure how much a pinch or a teaspoon ful is. Me I just want to get it in the food and be done with it don't matter hand or spoon

i use table salt for cooking and also feel comfortable pinching the salt with my fingers. like you, it seems i could measure it well if i use my hand instead of the spoon. but for iodized salt, i use a spoon because they granulated.

I usually get salts through my hands, though I cannot really measure, I just put salt then if it is not sufficient I put some more.

I prefer Putting salt with my hand simply because I'm used to it and not only that I learnt that from my Grandma.........and from my old friend Nina, people do say putting salt with ur hand makes what u are cooking more delicious, more nutricious, more good and it equaly shows that u are very good in cooking i.e adapting to the main process of cooking in a modern society.

I use a spoon, My hands shake so much i'd be afraid of losing the salt if I used my hands. Besides how do you measure.

Have always preferred hand to spoon.
Most of the time the salt required is less than the spoon size & feel more in control when i use my hands.
I learned my cooking from my mother. she always used rock salt from a big jar. Spoon was not an option here. so, i guess that i picked up the habit from her.
I also teach in a catering college where we keep different size spoons for salt. This a especially useful for bakery products. Did i answer your question??? ( ha,ha...)

I use a salt shaker, whenever possible. If it's a little, I might do it with my fingers, more, I'd use a spoon. A friend who had been to Russia, told me that over there they salt their food of the blade of a knife. I've tried it, and it works too.
