My favorite inventor is the sony guy, Akio Morita. It wasn't anything in particular that he invented that made me like him, it was the fact that he was good at observing patterns in humans. Such of these patterns made him define problems and create solutions with his products, like the walkman.

Hello from the Philippines
I have several Filipino inventors:
Agapito Flores, the poor elctrician who invented the fluorescent light. Thomas Edison invented the first light which was the incandescent bulb but the Filipino perfected it and gave the world the white light at night.
Who created the Lunar Rover or moon buggy used in 1969 by American astronauts who first landed on the moon? A Filipino employee of Lockheed Corporation christened Eduardo San Juan.
Doctor Fe Del Mundo, who invented the incubator...just think if we don't have that, more babies can die.
Daniel Dingel, he has so many inventions since in the 1970s until these days.

As far as I am concerned, the greatest inventor was Archimedes. He discovered enough scientific principles to fill a textbook, and no matter how much credit is given to Newton for inventing Calculus, Archimedes beat him to it.
For my favorite invention, I'm going with a split between the internal combustion engine by Diesel and others independently, and the microprocessors of recent times. Both have made life faster and easier. And before anyone bashes me for promoting fossil fuels, all of these engines were designed to run on a plant-based product. Ex. early Diesel engines ran on corn oil.
