i used to have a ferret years ago, her name was Smokey...i absolutely loved her (although she stunk LOL we bathed her) as for toys, she was kinda lazy...loved her hammock so she laid in there a lot but we also put some balls of some sort in there and she seemed to enjoy it. now this may sound weird, but we bought a leash for her so we could take her into the backyard when we were there..nice to have some fresh air! don't know about the hissing part, i'm not sure what that means. my ferret never did anything like that!

I use to buy baby toys for my ferrets. If you go to a second hand store you can find rattles, ring toys and various baby toys very inexpensive and if they're safe enough for a baby they're usually safe for a ferret. The hissing thing sounds like your ferret is trying to play with you. Does he open his mouth and sort of pounce around? If you react by making a lot of noise, like you're scared he may get the idea that you like when he does that. Try to be calm when he does things that you don't like- ignore him or put him back in his cage for a time out but don't make a big deal out of it.

I have never really seen a pet ferret, when I was a little girl my dad had ferrets but they were working ferrets for when he went rabbiting, and they were savage. When you have pet ferrets are they more like cats and do they bite you,....

Oh cool! Yeah there are alot like cats, At first they do bite cause they don't know any better, but once they get to know you and know that you won't hurt them then they will kiss you so much lol. Mines funny I trained him once he gets out of his cage in the morning that he gives me a kiss. They are very fun and entertaing animals, but they do sleep alot lol.

I don't know about the hissing, Pigglies might be able to answer that. My ferrets love cardboard boxes but just like the guinea pigs they make a complete mess of them. I bought some PVC pipe and drilled holes in it. They like to climb through it and when it gets trashed I can throw it in the recycle bin and get some more at Home Depot. It's way cheaper than buying toys in the store and they like being able to roll the pieces around or sleep in them. Mine don't stay caged so they can run around at will; they do have a huge metal enclosure but the door on it is always open.

When I had my two ferrets Rock and Chyna, they loved just about anything they could get their little paws on. I loved buying them cat toys. Oddly enough though they preferred paper towel roll tubes and cereal boxes. We had to give Chyna back to the pet store because she hissed and bit a lot. Is your ferret a girl, if so it might be a female territorial thing.
