This is a very sad case that has been in the news,
This man was the only parent at home with his 2 daughters (K) 3yrs old and (S) 15 months old on the weekend.
After a evening of heavy drinking, during at which time he refused an offer from his brother-in-law to look after his daughters.
With a wind chill temp.of about -50.he took them outside dressed only in light shirts and diapers.
Hours later a neighbor found him incoherent and nearly froze to death on her doorstep. She called an ambulance and the police arrived as well after he became aggressive he was sedated and taken to hospital. When he awoke the next afternoon he asked about his daughters, and that is when they started looking for them. The 15 month old was nearly buried with snow and the 3 yr old was not far away but it took them a long time to find her.He has a crimal record of about 50 prior convictions for drinking.
He was only given 3 yrs in penitentiary.
When sentenced he appeared to be unwilling to take any responsiblity for his actions
He said what is prison going to do for me?It will just take me away from my family (he has another daughter now)
I can't believe that was all the time he got ,Am I the only one that feels like he should have got a lot more jail time?

I feel it is appalling that hegot so little time for the crimes he committed. He is of no use whatsoever to the rest of his family, indeed he could even be of harm to his next daughter.
Why was he not given a heavier sentence? Are the laws there not stricter?

I agree with you completly,
The first nations had a sentcing circle where they didn't think that he should do jail time at all,but the judge overturned there recommedation of just sending him to his Uncles back on the reserve.
But our laws are not good here,it seems like there are hardly any.but our jails are full.

I won't even tell you what I think should happen because my answer may be deleted. All I'm going to say is any amount of jail time is NOT fair because jail time is too good for this "person".

Yeah, he should have gotten life in prison. What he commited was homicide. He killed those two small children, even though he didn't use a conventional method of murder. And obviously he didn't really care since he showed no remorse what-so-ever. All I can say is I hope the other daughter is old enough to take care of herself, because obviously he is not man enough to be a father. And I have to ask, where was their mother?
