Happy Birthday Barbie! The famous Barbie doll is officially 50 years old today! Can you believe she's been going strong for that long?? So I thought I'd start a conversation and reminisce about Barbie and see how many people still have their Barbie dolls to this day..are they in good condition? did you ever play with Barbie dolls when you were younger?? Looking forward to your responses!!

50 years is a great achievement and she is going stronger than ever! lol it amuses me how people want to look exactly like barbie. I have had a few barbies when I was younger and some of them whose faces have been dishevelled with black ink and eyes ripped off lol. I had a few of them surviving but thanks to my dog, barbie is reduced to pieces. Have a nice day!

ya i never understood those people that wanted to look exactly like Barbie, but they did tweak Barbie's image and measurements throughout history which is good. i know some people whose dolls are also dishevelled with black ink LOL

Ya know...I never understood why anyone would want to look like a barbie doll either. I mean she is pretty but she is also very very phony looking. I got compared to one a couple of times. I know the people that made the comments and know they meant it as a compliment but to be honest my first reaction was to feel insulted. When I say a girl is nothing but a barbie doll...trust me ... I don't mean it as a compliment. I don't like barbie so that is probably why I take it that way. Still...all that being said...she is worth a fortune. I wish I held on to mine. It was one of the originals and I never played with it so it'd be in mint condition. I probably would not be so poor would I?

I never played with dolls. I was a tomboy and preferred to play sports with the boys. My parents couldn't afford to buy me a Barbie doll although I thought they were cute. I do remember when the first Barbie doll came out and also her cute boyfriend, Ken. We don't hear much about Ken anymore. I am thinking one of the first Barbie dolls would be priceless now.

I cant beleive the price of barbie dolls now!..wow!..If they were that expensive when I was growing up, I surely wouldnt have had any. Indeed, I had barbie, ken, and skipper too. I would play for hours making doll houses on my front deck out of cardboard boxes and decorating them with coloured papers and handmade furniture out of anything I could find. Its too bad that we dont see this much any more with little girls. They grow up so fast. Sadly, *giggles*....my brothers friend one day took a sharp object and gave them all slits up the butts.."so they can poop".. I was devastated, and never played with them again! Ofcourse, back then, I never realized how valuable they would be today.

they really have gotten expensive, but obviously they are still going strong so many people aren't too concerned about the price! i only had Barbie...no Ken or Skipper. HAHA oh the many things boys do to the Barbies...LOL can't help but laugh about it!

I have a friend who named her daughter after Barbie because she thought the doll was so beautiful, her daughter just turned 50 also. Would you name a child after a doll?

WOW! they both just turned 50? thats crazy! personally i wouldn't name a child after a doll, but it doesn't surprise me that some do! i had a friend in elementary and high school who's name was Barbi -- without the "e" at the end. she was blonde with blue eyes and thin...it was weird! nice girl though

Wow. I am forty one years old and I can still remember having a fair share of them from when I was about five or six years old. Didn't save them of course. Wasn't thinking like that while I was a child during the 1970's. I bet those girls are worth a lot of money now! I used to get the Ken dolls and also the little vans and campers and other doo-hickies that came along with them. Had a grand time with them and such grand memories.

I used to love to play with barbies. I don't have many of my old dolls but daiughter sure has a lot of them. She loves them too. My oldest daughter used to play with them but she's to old for that now. She does play barbies with her little sister sometimes to give "her sister" something to do..lol..

It's funny you should mention that, I got the most hilarious email from my aunt about barbie turning 50. It was "cougar barbie" and she had the four college boys over from next door. I had tears rolling down my cheeks I was laughing so hard... LOL. I used to love my barbie collection. We used the old vinyl albums as walls and built houses with them. We had a barbie motorhome and took barbie outside on camping trips... I spent hours and hours and hours playing with my barbies! I don't think I have any barbies left though, my mother got rid of them after I left home.

Have you heard they want to take her off the market and stop selling her in the states. I heard it either on news or on the insider. Saying she dress to skimpy. Happy Birthday Barbie

Wow! 50 years! I had Barie and her friends, pets, boyfriends, cars, babies, etc. She has everything! I remember playing by myself for hours setting up her little world. I never had the "dream" house so I was creative on taking household objects and turning them into Barbie's household items. Like one time I made a toilet out of a styrofoam coffee cup! The drinking flap was the toilet lid. lol A kleenex box covered with a wash cloth makes a great Barbie bed! Shoe boxes are great for separating the different rooms I used to make too. I remember my older sister and I would set up our multiple shoe box houses and play forever! I'm glad to know she's been around this long, so hopefully she'll still be kickin when I have my own daughter to pass on the tradition!

I'm a girl and yes...had the barbie...in fact I had one of the originals. I really never liked the doll at all and as I grew older....liked her even less. My mom tried like heck to get me to love this doll...I actually had a few of them and the case and all the outfits. I never played with them. My cousin has my barbies...I gave them away. My daughter actually has the case. I saved it and stored all my things in it while growing up...never used it for what it was intended. sorry guys...not a fan.

I think my mom has my Barbie somewhere. It is hard to believe she is 50. My mom had one when she was a kid. She use to have it and she told me. I do think they are making barbie a little too skankie now. She wears clothes that show to much and that we would not want our daughters to wear.

I remember going to see my cousin when I was small and she was alot older than me. She had loads of Barbies and she used to get the box of Barbies out of her attic when I went round to see her and she'd play barbies with me. She ended up giving them all to me when I got a little bit older and as far as I know they're still at my parent's house.
