Flaw In Chamber Of Secrets ??

It was said that "If you look in the eyes of Basilisk it would be fatal" ... then how come fawkes survive even after coming face to face with Basilisk ?

Interesting point Fawkes is a phoenix though and is therefore immortal, and even if harmed would just regenerate

So he should have turned to ashes and then should have regenerated. Isn't it?

Im not sure if you only saw the movie or if you read the books, but im pretty sure that in the books fawkes does turn into a pile of ashes

As I remember, Fawkes didn't look in to the eyes of Basilisk when she fights it, because she attacked its eyes and blinded it in the first moment she fights it.
It sounds like Fawkes know how dangerous Basilisk is and destroyed its most powerful weapon as soon as possible
