getting a child to pay attention in class

my daughter who is 5 has a hard time sitting still and paying attention. i got a letter from the teacher but what am i suposed to do from home. i try to talk to her but i dont see what else i can do to help when i'm not there. appearently she plays with her hands while the teacher is speaking and that's what she is upset about.you can't take her hands away from her.

That's a problem, there really isn't much you can do from home. Does your daughter have ADD or ADHD? All 3 of my young siblings have them to some extent, it made it impossible for my parents to put them in school. They are being home schooled right now, and it works well; they pay attention more when with their parents.
If home schooling is not an option for you, there are certain medications that are safe for young children to take that help with concentration. Though you should know many of them have side effects and may not be worth using. Aside from that, about the only thing you can do is some small exercises that help improve attention span; you can find a bunch of them with a quick search online.
