Do you get annoying telemarketing calls to your cell phone? How do you stop them

For the last few days we have recieved five unsolicited
telemarketing calls to our cell phone.
It's so annoying! These people are costing me money every
time I have to use my cell phone just to deal with them.
And, there's no way to tell that it's a telemarketer before
picking up the phone.
So, I registered my cell phones on the do-not call list at:
https://www.donotcall.gov/
I'm hoping this will stop the unwanted phone calls.
They say it can take up to 30 days to get on the list.
I had no idea that I could register online for the do-not call list
or I'd have done something about it before.
Do you receive unwanted telemarketing calls on your cell phone?
How do you deal with them or stop them?

About six months ago my dad got one on his cell phone. I remember him telling me about it. I couldn't believe telemarkters had started to harass not just people at home, but people on the go via cell phone! It's ridiculous. It won't help road rage, that's for sure. Can you imagine being in rush hour traffic and someone gets a telemarketing call on their cell? Hope they don't take it out on anyone on the road!

Isn't that the truth!
And, these telemarketers are hogging up valuable
cell phone air time when others might actually be
trying to call 911 or some other important number.
Anymore I don't even pick up the cell phone if I don't
recognize the number.

Yes, I sympathise with you, my friend. I do receive quite a few telemarketing calls on my mobile phone but in this country, we know which numbers are likely to be unsolicited callers. Most sales calls numbers are either witheld, or beging 0800, or 0825. I just ignore them... don't even answer, so it costs them more than it does me. lol.
Brightest Blessings. I hope you get everything sorted soon.

Thank you my friend. It's good to be back amongst my friends. I was away too... a combination of illness and being busy, but I'm gradually catching up with all my friends again.
As for the phone calls, yes, unless it's a number you have on your cell as a friend or contact, they're going to either try to sell you something or they're up to no good.

That's a clever little trick for discerning the good
guys from the bad ones.
Thinking about it now, two of the telemarketing telephone numbers
were labeled as "private" and didn't show a number on my cell phone.
That's a big clue that they are up to no good! From now on, I will
not answer.

P.S. Nice to see you around Mylot, again.
I have been missing in action from Mylot for awhile.
I don't know where the time goes.
But it just slips away from me.
And, then the weeks go by and I haven't seen all my Mylot friends.

We have that do not call thing here - its called the TPS (telephone preference scheme) and the main way of registering is online!
I have to say though that I haven' really had a problem with telemarketing on my mobile (cell). It doesn't work 100% but if I do get any calls I ask where they got the number and they apologise and remove number from database!
Good to see you honey!

Hey you! It is so awesome to see you again!
I have been so worried about you.
I'm not online at Mylot lots these days,
but I check in on occasion.
Good to hear a familiar voice in my favorite place online.
Best of health and good life to you, my friend.

It is always annoying to receive such kind of call. Especially sometimes you are busy at work or something else. When you pick up the phone call and it will spoil your mood since it's from the sales. I don't know where they have my phone calls. And I really dislike that they even don't know how to sell. I hardly listen to them as they can't speak clearly. They need to practise their speech so that they can sell. I always say no thanks, I don't need it and then I hang up the phone. I don't want to waste my money for it. My phone company charges me by minute. This is why sometimes I don't pick up the strange calls.
I love China

My phone company charges me per minute too.
We pay up to $60 month for both our cell phones
and that's barely using them.
We are having to cut back cause of the bad economy here.

Hello dear beauty queen. I used to have telemarketing calls to my cell phone, but it is free. I mean, I don't have to pay for the incoming calls, as it is from China Mobile, which is a free service. The content of the calls is asking me to see if I would like to book weather report service and such. If I want to book for this kind of messages, I need to pay three RMB for the weather report messages a month. I booked the weather report messages, but now I canceled this service, as I don't see it necessary for me to have it. I can get to know the weather information each time I surf on the Internet. Good day to you, dear friend.

Yes, I love the Internet for weather updates, too.
In our area, we have a bad hurricane season.
So it's always necessary to know when the big hurricanes
are going to hit our area, just in case evacuations are needed.
Thanks for your kind response.

Same here! I didn't get too many calls before this month.
Kind of freaked me out a little.
The Do Not call website says that you can list landlines
and mobile phones, so I am guessing they include
cellular in that too.
That's my hope, anyway!
Fingers crossed, I'll be getting fewer calls within the month.

So far, I don't get such calls on my cellphones. Only on land lines. It is okay. I turned them down as casual as I could. Especially if I am not interested with what they are offering.

If you have done business with anyone using your cell number as a contact number, then they don't know it's a cell phone and may sell the list with your contact info on it. You need to tell everyone you deal with that you are using a cell number that isn't to be shared and tell the telemarketers who call you that they are calling a cell phone and need to stop immediately. Most don't realize they are autodialing a cell phone, I don't think anyway. The do not call list works up to a point, but companies you do business with do have the right to contact you through their own telemarketers after you've done business with them.

I believe that's right. I was just telling my spouse
about that earlier today. If you've dealt with a business
then they can follow up later by telephone.
But, I'm pretty sure that I don't know these people calling.
I tracked them down online and they are some
type of credit card consolidation company.
I don't use my credit cards anymore. So it's noone that I would know.
I can only imagine that they got my number from someone else.
Most likely I used my cell phone number when signing
up for an affiliate program. They require a valid phone number
and then one of the companies sold my info. Totally lame!
Thanks for all the helpful advice. I had not considered
that they didn't know I was using a cell phone.

Hi, beautyqueen26!!!! It is nice to see you here!! I am glad to see you. I was just thinking about you just the other day. Well, right now, I have many calls from bill collectors. They are calling for a woman named Sandra H. They call all of the time for her.. I have a prepaid phone and when I go to listen to my voice messages, my minutes get deducted. Like you, I am unable to see whom called me just as soon as I turn on my phone. I can check my messages, but not my Caller ID. If I had my phone turned on then I could see whom is calling me. It gets on my nerves. I am thinking about changing my number. I do get many calls, probably telemarketers calls as well. I will have to be on their do not call list too. Whomever this woman is she sure does owe a lot of people money.. They continue to call my cell phone number. She needs to inform them of her new number.. But she won't do this, she is trying to run away from them. Now I get the headcahe!

They charge me per minute to check my messages too.
I spend more money checking useless messages
than even talking to real live people!
I'm hoping the do not call list kicks in and they stop
calling me soon.
Perhaps you could register your cell phone with
your do not call list too.
P.S. Thanks for your kind words. I've missed all of you in
my time away.

If I don't recognize a number on my cell or home phone, I just do not answer. If it is important, I have voice mail on my ell phone so they can leave me a message. Yes, it is quite annoying to receive these calls, and after the first time I got one, I decided not to answer a call unless I know the number. All of the people who I have given my cll phone number to will show up with their name on my phone, if that doesn't happen, I ignore the call all together.

I get this alot. How can get rid of them from calling? I mean they just keep calling and calling. At the end of each message it says press this button to be taken off the list. I press it and you know what? They just keep calling. This is making me mad. Are you positive that site works. Because I would be so grateful just for it to work. I dont have called Id so I pick up almost every call. I try not to pick up the phone sometimes.

Yes, I get them too... I have caller id on my phone and if it is a number shows up that I dont know then I dont answer it for 2 reasons, one I know it is a sales call especially if it starts with at 866 or 800... and two it will charge me for answering them...so no thanks. Thank goodness for caller id!!! and the funny thing is they never leave a message...LOL

Yeah, I was suspicious a couple times when they didn't leave messages.
I figured it had to be a telemarketer.
I don't think they'll be calling back.

Unfortionatly Yes I do! BUT, I'm pretty sure they are my fault. In my past internet job search, I was filling out so many "work at home" questionaires, forms, surveys, etc. in search of the real thing. Alot of those asked for my phone number. And not having a home phone I used my cell number. Being gulible in the past has made me now use the phrase "live and learn". So now I'm more careful about what I put out there, especially my cell phone number! I probably won't ever know if they are telemarketing me randomly or because of an internet mistake?

I used my primary email address for the same reason in
the past for various paid survey companies that I joined.
Now I deal with massive amounts of spam emails to my
email address. I still have to sort it out.
But, I can simply unsubscribe with the little link
at the bottom of each email.
Trouble is, I've made money with some of the companies,
but can't remember which ones, and would lose the money
if I canceled their emails.

I do get telemarketing calls all the time. Be it my cell phone or the fixed line base phone. It is really annoying when you are having a nice sleep in the afternoon and you have to rush to the phone, only to find out some tele caller trying to sell you a credit card or something like that.
The government here has become strict in such cases after repeated complaints and now we can file a suit on the company if it does so. :)

Hello Beautyqueen26, my hubby does receive a lot of calls from banks like loans or credit card applications. Well not to be rude about these telemarketers because they are just doing their job, but we make sure that we will tell them straight away that we are not interested.
Then some are very stubborn, will call again and ask you the same thing, so i guess we just have to deal with them normally like not raising a voice, and just say" we are not interested" and they will say goodbye.
For now we don't receive any more calls from any banks unlike before. I remember my hubby told them that he does not have a job, so i think that stopped them from calling him back about credit cards and loans.

i think there is hardly anyone who is spared from the tellemarketing call... i still get many calls from telemarketing people... at start only tell thim i am not intrested in any of your buiseness... but then also if the guy continues.. i simply put my cell aside without answering to him... he himself understands that there is no one to listen and he cuts the phone... but i still dont have any good way to avoid them
