"Oh, it's just a phase".

Has a parent or relative ever said this about you and something you were doing at the time? When I became a vegetarian for the first time (when I was 12), both of my parents would tell their friends and co-workers about it, and made sure to exclaim that it was indeed a PHASE (or a fad that was going on at the time), and that I would certainly grow out of it. Six and a half years later, I'm still meat-free, and finally, my parents are beginning to realize that, no, it was NOT (and is not) a phase. Have your parents ever brushed off any of your serious decisions as being "phases" that you'll "grow out of"?

My parents never did. I had relatives too that thought my being a vegetarian was a phase. They constantly picked on me for it. Anyways, that was when I was 13 and I'm 21 now and still vegetarian. So my story is kind of similar to yours.
