When did you start writing and what kind of things did you write in the beginning?
I wrote my first poem when I was 12. I had a cat poster in my room at that time and the picture inspired me to write a poem about cats. I also wrote a few other poems, one of them was a poem about a boy who was lonely, because the others didn't want to play with him. I haven't kept those poems, but I still remember some of the lines. I am 32 now, so that was 20 years ago

We were about the same age when we started I can see. It is true, I was very imaginative when I was a child, and I enjoyed writing poems about animals, children etc. There was a long period in my life where I didn't write much, but now I write again. The poems that I write now are very different from the ones I used ot write, but I still enjoy it very much. Thanks for your response

I started writing when I was eleven. I don't remember what started it, anymore. But I started writing adventure stories with aliens, kids with powers, and dimensional shifts. (My Mom's big on scifi, horror, and fantasy books. Grandma introduced me to mysteries, and I started out reading 200 page books at five, quickly graduating to 300-1000 pagers by time age nine...so you can see how this might appeal to my imagination back then)
I wish I still had my old stories. I know they can't really compare to my writing now (and I'm not even saying I'm that great NOW)...but they were my beginning, you know? I'm really sentimental, I guess, heh.
I'm a year away from being an adult now, but I like how writing's become such a central part of my life since then.

I also wish that I had kept some of my old stories and poems, it could have been fun to see them now and compare them to the things that I am writing now, but I didn't think about that when I was yonnger, and I didn't keep them.

I used to write a lot of stories when I was in school. My Dad and my brother liked to watch horror movies, so that was most of what I saw as well. So that was what I wrote... until my teacher sent me to the school councelor. I think they called my parents in as well.
I also wrote a poem once in High school. I entered it into a poetry contest. It was one of those places that pint and anthology of poerty. They say you won, but you to be published in their book, you gotta buy a copy. So basically, everyone WINS the contest and has to pay $50 for teh book. That book was so big and had thousands of poems. I can't even begin to imagine how much money that little job made. Good idea, but dissapointing to know my poem didn't stand out to anyone, my $50 did.

I wrote a lot in office, but my personal writing did not start until my grandson was born. As my son and his family lived with us until they moved out, I accompanied his growing up for some years. I managed to write diaries for these years, a thick and meaningful memory.

I honestly don't remember when I started writing. When I think back, the one thing that sticks in my mind is that in 6th grade, we had to write our first "research paper" for school, and I chose Christmas as the topic to research. It was the first time that I realized writing could be fun!
I also remember very vividly a time when we had to pick poems to recite in class, although I am not sure which grade that was, and I picked Robert Frost's "Two Roads in a Woods." And one of the boys in my class picked the poem that talks about fog creeping in on little cat feet, and thinking that was so awesome of a description.
Strange what memories we hold about writing and learning poetry. I wrote a lot of poems in high school and college and even had one published in the literary journal at my college. I didn't think anyone read those things, but the librarian who passed out the reserved books, commented the next time she saw me that she had liked my poem. Who knew?

I guess I started writing a long time ago now! What do I write? I keep private journals! I get so much pleasure from writing about my life and my feelings. I have accumulated these journals over the years and they are something that I can look back on many years from now. I don't have riches! I don't have wealth! I have my journals and someone can find these when I am gone! Poems are good although I have never written poetry. I recently tried my hand at fiction and I wrote one story which was published on Associated Content. Anyway, I guess the more that you write the better you become. There's so much relaxation to be had from regular writing. Andrew

As a developmental milestone, I guess I started writing at 5 or 6 when I entered kindergarten. :-)
Kidding aside, I think I really realized my talent in writing when I was Ten. That's when I started reading a lot of books too except my school textbooks. I guess I started with poems too then short stories.
