more and more ppl use computer now, what we cannot deny is that since we have started to work ,pens are seldom used by us ,many ppl can hardly remember when he last use the pen to write, the matter is that with the keyboard we simply type whatever we wanna and it seems to be convinient to write novels by typing too ,but in my opinion, all we need is to use pen to write sometimes in order to save our writing ability in case we should forget how to write in a delicate script.it gives us a chance to express ourselves with the pen and paper--- the initial way we cary down from generation to generation.

I liked your discussion ... for me I prefer to type ... I'm faster like that and I use all my fingers while typing so all my fingers are relaxed LOL ... as for writing while using three fingers to hold a pen and press on a paper to write is really not my type. Specially when I want to go back to a certain page I'll have to find it by reading ... but while typing I'll just make a search for a certain word I know in a certain page and here it is ... simple. Also you can put all your thoughts in simple easy steps ... like a paragraph you're writing, with a website link and a photo all that is much easier and faster by the copy and paste ... Oh I just LOVE typing. But to tell you the truth ... your words got into me ... Writing is a way we took it from previous generations ... it has a special science to know our personality from just drawing a single letter ... I think you are right ... we should write from time to time just to keep our handwriting neat. Happy typing and writing in myLot.

quite lovely response u have done !u know if we can only typing or only writing that would be terrible cuz all the words we have typed may disappeare from the internet in a long long time away ,but the writing lasts forever that is the best way to keep history i think.

Maybe you are right, but even when writing we can still lose papers. If we typed we may delete our document by mistake ... or our discussion can be deleted for many reasons. Same as paper work, you can ruin it by dropping your coffee mistakenly :) but still I think we should enjoy writing here and then ... even if our handwriting is really bad :D

hello melodyyu Yes, that's true. I seldom write. I found this 2 months ago, I borrowed a book from a library and the book was so good. I wanted to jot something down to summarize the ideas of the book. I then used a pen to write it down, but I can't hold the pen firmly as I found my thumb was so stiff to bend. And when I tried to hold the pen tight, my thumb ached!!! It reminded me that I've stopped writing by pens for two years. After two weeks time writing, I feel better now. My handwriting turns normal as before now. I think it is a good idea to let this carry down to our next generation. Have a nice day.

I agree that people nowadays often use the computer when writing but for me personally i still use pen in writing. In fact i love holding my pen and a notebook when doing research in the internet. I have this habit of collecting notebook because i love to write on it using my favorite pen and speaking of pen, it reminds me that i have to buy new one since my favorite pen has already run out of ink. I believe the art of writing is express through the use of pen. Its still alive and not erase in my system.

Nowadays, with the widespread use of computer, more and more people are used to typying rather than writing with pen. Typying is indeed of benefit to us because it increases the efficiency, which is regarded as the most important point since time is so valuable. While we cannot deny the convenience and efficiency of typing, we should not neglect the importance of writing with pen. As you say, expressing ourselves with pen and paper has been the initial way we carry down from generation to generation, therefore, it is important for us to cherish such cultural tradition. Besides this, writing with pen also helps people to pratise our writing ability because a good handwriting is supposed to be appreciated by most people.

I love to type and I am a fast typer on the computer. I can do about 80 words per minute. Probably more if I have planned what I am going to type. Though I don't always take the advantage of typing on the computer. At times yes I do pick up the paper and pen and start writing! Everybody should still write, I love writing, it was my favourite subject as a child. :)

I prefer to type especially when composing an article. However, I have no problem using a pen to write. I dont bring a laptop when I go to library to do research. I usually bring a notebook and pen to jot down main points. That is a habit from young. Sometimes my handwriting is so horrible, till I can't recognise what the words are. I believe writing by pen is good for health, those chinese calligraphers usually live longer than the normal people. Maybe it's the rate that they are writing at, slow and steady, rather than the fast and messy way I usually write.

I will never give up putting pen to paper. I love the way it feels and my creativity flows better. I was a secretary in my earlier years so sometimes typing seems like work, which is probably why I am having such a hard time getting back to editing my novel. It just seems like too much work. Pen and paper will never be eliminated since real signatures will never disappear. The kids are still learning to "write" in school and definitely need it. My almost 16yo would rather print her name than write it. I can understand; I am beginning to have trouble signing my long name. It does not help, however, that teachers are insisting projects be typed. We didn't have to have our work typed when I was in school. They really should be encouraging them to write NEATLY.

I find the school systems ecouraging nt only typing but my daughter had a teacher that insisted every paper be submitted in typewritten form and on a disc. Of course her copmputer had crashed that year so she had to use ours which she hated doing. That was 8 years ago and I'm sure it's gotten worse. At my day job many are wanting to submit documents with digital signatures but we are not set up for that yet. And we are hoping to prolong it as long as possible. I'm afraid neat handwriting may become a way of the past and taught only in creative classes in the not too far off future. It's sad!!

Well the reason the majority of people tend to type instead of write is simply because typing words is a lot quicker to do than writing them. There are many more which give a valid reason why most people type instead of write. 1.The help the computer gives you in terms of the spell check feature on word documents. 2. A typed document can be shared, copied and moved very easily. 3. A typed document can be read by anyone unlike a written document where the individuals neatness, writing style and spelling ability come into play and may give readers difficulty understanding and reading the document. 4. A written document on paper can easily be lost and damaged unlike a typed document which can be saved and printed countless times. Writing is slow and people often have stop as they their hands get tired after hours of writing.

Typing would be a lot more convenient if we didn't have to bring up the computer first! I miss the typewriter. I still use pens all the time. I don't feel like bringing up the computer just to write a few lines, or jot down some ideas. I do all my work by pen first. When it's done, then I'll type it. Let's hear it for the mighty pen!

melodyyu great topic this is one that you are right on the mark with. I find when i write with a pen it is messy and not as good penmenship i had enjoed in the past. The keyboard has been the downfall and it is my own fault. i am going to start writing atleast 1o lines a day starting tomorrow and i am going to call it melodyuu training.

Most of the times now a days I rather type I feel it is much easier most of the time. But if I am in a hurry and I am leaving a quick note or need to send the kids to school with a excuse or early dismisale I will write it.

I like both. Sometimes I just wanna write and others its just easier and faster to type. I suppose it depends on what I am writing/typing and where I am, what is going on, etc. I am a pretty fast typer, up to 95 wpm as of now so typing is pretty quick for me. I like all the stationaries that are available and I always have a TON of pens around the house so that makes writing a bit more interesting. Im also always telling my kids they have to practice writing better, especially the boys, so I have to show them that I actually write still.

yeah i think so kids should write with pens and even if the father is quite good at typing he cannot show his kids his handwriting as a good sample then the kids wont practice writing which is a need in school .

I love typing than writing. When I was a kid I really hate writing and listing those word by word notes that we have to write in notebooks.. I really get tired and sometimes I don't even understand the letters that i wrote down in my notebook.. While typing is so convenient and easy to use by everyone..Not to mention, typing can lessen your time and energy to list down all your story in a bond sheet of paper.. But then, your right we have to sometimes use our own hands to write in a pen, so that we can maximize our skill in writing and even improve our writing skills that can express our own personal feelings..

I appreciate you this is a good topic to discuss. Writing ability of mankind comes from stone age man when he used to draw the pictures of animals and trees in the caves to remember the things and then, he started writing on the barks of tree and so on. But in modern times we have actually forgetten to write more and are typing more. Simply reason being any mistake in typing can undone but this this is not the case in writing. However a age is going to come where there is no need to write or type just you need to speak. and ur things are done.
