I've had cats my whole life, but have never really been able to train any of them to do anything extrordinary. I definetly would potty train my cat if I knew how to! I have seen people do that on TV, but I think they must have bought a book or something on how to do it. Cats are not like dogs. I just love my cat for who she is, and I don't really need to train her to do anything other than sit there and be pretty. She's really good at that trick! Thanks for the question and have a great day!

Behold Misha, the web famous potty trained cat! I thought this was a great story and "how-to" when I came across it a long time ago,and it's poignant now that the cat's no longer around..here's hoping the info is of help to You with your Puss!

I've never tried to train my cat to do tricks, though she is the sweetest cat i've ever met. Shell do what I say, if I tell her to get down off the table, she does it. I think there pretty smart animals, but I don't think you would be able to train a cat like you would a dog.

We must not confuse the nature of cats and dogs.I believe cat is an independant animal and this is the nice on her.But to train her some tricks is easy(as she is really clever, therefore the expression"you are a cat" and funny for you and your kitten. On the other hand dogs need to have a boss and obey to his rules.

My husband has trained 2 of our cats to do things. Bandit, who passed away last year at age 20, and Buffy who id still with us thankfully.
He will call Buff when he gets home from work and they play a game. He says "I'll get your belly" and Buff rolls over on his back while hubby reaches to tickle his belly. Buff tries to grab his hand and hubby pretends he is hurt. They repeat this several times then hubby says "want a treat? give me five" and Buff will gently reach up and press his paw on hubby's palm to "give him five." Then he gets a treat. He loves the game and looks forward to it every night.

I have trained many an animal.........Cats included!! I have found that if you start while they are very young it is easy. The older they get the more Tude' they have, and the harder it gets. The ones that I have trained, could stand up, roll over, growl, talk, move from place to place with voice commands or snap of the fingers and pointing. They would also use the toilet ( insted of the cat box) Plus one of the annoying thing, I should have never taught them was to open doors. The one we have now is learning really slowly, but he stands, and give up his paw. We adopted him from the ARV. He is at least 5 years old.

All fellow cat lovers! I have my cat for 10 yrs and counting..I cant seem to be able to train her to do anything special except for saying a word and she will respond to me non-stop adoringly.. That is the word to indicate food! cat food! She knows that when I say that word, it means she will be fed. Hence, I would probably think it helps a bit by using food to train, just like other animals, though I think cats are generally relatively lazier animals. They prefer to laze and yah, stay pretty...
