The local newspaper interviewed me for an upcoming article about Etsy....

A fellow EtsyNJ team member alerted me this past weekend that she had been contacted by a reporter that wanted to do an article on handmade Etsy crafters in the area and she gave him my contact info. When I got home from work yesterday, I realized the reporter sent me an email and wanted to talk with me about Etsy.
I spoke with the reporter for 20-30 minutes about how the handmade crafting community uses the internet to help sell their items and how networking on sites like Twitter, Facebook and myLot link crafters together.
We spoke about driving traffic to my Etsy shop, discussed the benefits of joining a street team (and talked about how the team communicates with ea other)as well as talked about my handmade jewelry, what sea glass is and how many crafters seem to be very eco-friendly.
I hope the reporter sends me an email (hopefully with a link to the online paper) if the article is published, so I can share it with everyone here at myLot!

How exciting, congratulations! I'd love to read the article if the reporter sends you a link with the initial interview. I do have a question for you: have you tried to sell on e-Bay? If so, how were sales? I have an interest in listing a couple of crafts but really don't know what I am doing or if there is profit to be made with crafts and jewelry. I didn't do well on Etsy but that was my fault for not pushing the site. Am no longer a member.

Thank you! It would be great if the article is published!
As far as eBay... I have not tried to sell my jewelry there. I did try scarves a few years back, but the bids were low and I didn't want to just give away my items or lose money.
My hubby sometimes sells sports memorabilia on eBay and he said the only safe way to sell there is to list items at a price that you feel comfortable selling it for. Hubby said the best way to sell on eBay is to making your starting price whatever you feel comfortable selling your item for (just in case you only get one bid) make sure you ship with delivery confirmation and charge enough for shipping and supplies. And hope you get a few bids to drive the price up .
My hubby does okay on eBay, but I'd rather stick to Etsy with my crafts...but I have seen more jewelry than usual on eBay lately when I search for supplies. How well it is selling...I'm not sure.
If I get a link or copy of the article, I will post it here... thanks for your response!!

Oh yes, I for one, would love to read it. How special! We never know what's going to happen in our lives from one day to the next, do we? It's little things like this that make life worthwhile for us, and I congratulate you on being chosen. Well done my friend!
Brightest Blessings.

It was a lot of fun. I'm not sure how many other area crafters were contacted or will chose to participate. I hope the reporter gives me a heads-up if the article is published...and hopefully it's an internet link to their online paper : )
Either way I'll somehow get the article onto myLot if it is published.
Thanks for your response!

I hope it leads to a few future sales. It's really a little more exposure for my shop and the EtsyNJ team shops and hopefully a few of the people who read the article check out my shop on Etsy or find me at a local craft show over the spring/summer.
Thanks for your response!

Yes, he seemed to have a pretty grasp on the way he wanted to go with the article, and knew how to adjust his questions. I'm really looking forward to seeing how he presents Etsy and the local crafters.
Thanks for your response!!

Thanks, it was fun and with so many area crafters, to chose from, I'm thankful I was chosen.
It would be great if it lead to more sales and added exposure to my shop... but it is an exciting opportunity!
Thanks for your response!

I can't wait to read it either. I hope he makes more than just a casual mention of my/my craft. I do know he also interviewed at least one other local Etsy shop owner, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed.
It would be great to get a couple of sales from it...I'm really looking at the opportunity as a way to get some free local exposure in addition to all the marketing I do on social networking sites.
As soon as I hear it has been published, I'll forward the link of copy the artcile as a thread here on myLot!
Thanks for your response!

That is so cool. How fun it is be to be interviewed and talk about your business and your craft. I got to experience this one time when we had our bead store, there was a small article written about us in a small local community paper. It was fun. I do hope the article is published and you receive some business from it. So many more people have heard of Etsy now than a year ago and are browsing through the site.

It was pretty cool. The reporter was very cool, told little stories about how a senior citizen gave him "heck" when he asked him his age...lol. He seemed to interested in the online angle, a bit more than the craft itself...so I guess the article will be mostly about how the internet has brought, with a small bit of info on what my actual craft is.
It's true about how many people have heard of and visit the Etsy site in the last year. 2 years ago, when I mentioned I had an online shop on Etsy.com, people looked at me like I speaking a different language. Now half the people heard of the site and half of them say they love the site!
Thanks for your response!
