unusual marriages...

i have just read an article about bizarre marriages, where 'insane' is such an understatement. a woman marries a dog, or a tree, or a dolphin she kept visiting for 10 years. there were western marriages where the best man took the groom's place bec the groom stormed out of the church and the bride was pregnant, but at least the wife was a human. there were certain reasons, of course. but really!
it reminded me of a marriage back in the province where a lady married the trunk of a banana tree. she had a boyfriend alright, but it was said that the boyfriend was affiliated with an earth-entity, a fae if you may, and that the fae does not want him to get married or he will lose the ability to be able to see them 'beings'. therefore, she took the guy. the guy had been sick for days, and when he supposedly 'died', in his place was the white banana trunk. the girl married it, believing that the trunk still holds the soul of her beloved.
oh the height of desperation.
have you seen strange (to say the least) marriages?

I am not quite sure why anyone would do this, but I am not saying that it is completely wrong. For the thing in your province, I think that while it might sound strange, it might also be something from a long time ago, and it could be possible.
I myself can't think of anything.

yes, there were legends from long time ago, as with any other place. but still! i think the family tried to convice the girl..after all, she's not obliged to do it. i think she's thinking of the money already spent for the wedding preparation. it sure dint happen in church, though/.

Nothing weirder than what you've already stated.
About the girl marrying the banana tree, I guess it's okay because that's their tradition. The thought has been passed on from generations and generations, we can't question their psychological upbringing because it's deeply rooted with their ethnicity. I have read a similar story about that, where in a village in India (a very remote village) they actually have a tradition of two brothers sharing a wife. Yeah, it may sound absurd to us, but it was their upbringing, and no one can question that. They do have reasons about it because that village was actually a poor village, and they pass on their generations the land. If two brothers go out and marry a wife each, the land would be divided in half, thus as generations go by the land would surely be divided till no one could really live out of it. That's why it's actually 'practical' for them to share a wife thus the land won't need to be divided.
However, I do question those people who marry their dog, or a dolphin. Surely, there's some loose screws in those.
It's really sad hearing, seeing, or reading about those people who just take marriage for granted. They treat marriage as something to be done for fun. Many no longer take marriage seriously and it's hurting families.

Certainly, that is strange enough for me. I couldn't believe nowadays, 21 century, we still got some people believe in such things, Incredible that is what I am gonna say.

I'm certainly sure that people doing silly stunts like this are only trying to get attention, or else they are just plain crazy! Seriously, a tree? Come on! If you are in love and want to get married to another person, even if that marriage may not work out, it is a real thing, and not just some promotional stunt. Marriage has become a joke, and people should not give any attention to people who are just making more fun of the institution!

there is a story, after all, to the tree-marriage. it was once predicted that the girl would have a terrible heartache during his first marriage. probably to avoid the heartache, she married the tree who wouldn't stop her from doing what she wants.
oh the things a woman does to keep her heart intact!
lol

hi liaamur.... i have also heard stories like that.. but i find it very creepy.. i mean i cant really judge them coz its what they believe but i think no person in his right mind would marry something that could never reciprocate the love that he/she can give...but i doubt if there is love in those kind of marriages.. maybe just influenced by beliefs or part of a religion or something...or maybe obsession

Hmm yes, there are these things in different cultures. Here in India among Hindu astrology there is a belief that some men or women have a bad influence on ther horoscope...the bad influence would result in the spouse of this person dying. So before an actual marriage takes place, the person with the bad influence, marries either an animal or a tree in the hope that the bad influence passes on to it and the human spouse get protected.

How does one marry ana inanimate object such as a tree? How is this even allowed? I can understand a ritual being carried out for a symbolic marriage for whatever reason, but are these marriages recongnized by the states where these people live?
As for marrying an animal... well, what is the point of that?

exactly! here, we point out how incredibly bizarre people could get. never mind the government, but if these were real marriages, how could the officiating priest go through the whole ceremony?! lol.
and as for marrying the animal...i'll try not to even start thinking of the wedding night. *more lol*
