Many women are sensitive about their age because they may think it will influence your opinion of them.
I have had jobs where I would not tell my age, because I was over people that were considerable older than me and I knew it would be an issue. But in normal everyday life I do not consider it to be rude to ask. Expecially if this is a person you are considering dating and you think she may be young for you or to young to date legally.

I wouldn't say it's as bad as a crime, but many women are offended by being asked their age. Some women aren't, but many are. So to be safe, it's better just not to ask!
As for why women are offended by this, I'm not exactly sure. I guess many women feel that is socially unacceptable to get older!

I cannot understand why it is some "crime" to ask a woman her age. If it is not okay to ask a woman her age then why is it okay to ask a man his age. Is it because woman are self-conscious of their age and feel that they will be judged accordingly. I believe that the women who are against people asking their age are merely embarrassed or their current age and I assume are older than they look. One should embrace their age and be honest about it.

Some women find it very offensive if you ask them their age, sorta like asking their weight. If you ask and they tell you, and you make a face or comment they their self confindence goes down. It's a hard call on who you can ask and who you can't because all women are different.

No thats completey wrong lol. Of course you can ask women what their age is, you just have to know how to say it so they don't get pissed off and your comment/question doesn't offend them. Also they may get mad if they don't feel comfortable to tell you.

It's funny how so many people feel the need to lie about their age... I don't understand it. I agree that some people consider it a rude question, much like asking how much someone weighs or how much money they earn. For many, age is considered personal information. I don't see it like that and I'm never offended if someone asks. As cher said before me, you can ask... just remains to be seen if you will get an answer or not LOL
