I went to Alabama about 3 months ago and decided to "save some money" and find a cheaper hotel. Well let me tell you... SPEND YOUR MONEY!!! When we went to our room there was a man laying on our bed watching TV. Said he was from the front office and was there to fix it. The tv looked like it was working fine to me. Next we had to go and get some ice. We walked across the road to the ice machine and the room was so hot that you could hardly breathe in there. Went to the ice machine and it said it was 50 cents for a bucket of ice. Well where I grew up a bucket was a bucket, but not in Alabama. Put my money in the machine and held the little hotel bucket under it and it put out 3, yes 3 ice cubes. We then decided to go out to find something to eat and left for a while and when we came back there was a police car sitting about two doors down from our room. They were taking a man and woman out in handcuffs. We went into the room and locked our door. We noticed that there was another door in our room and wanted to see if it was a closet so when my husband opened the door a roll of nasty carpet fell out of the slot hitting him on the head, almost knocking him out. This was a door that adjoined us to the next room of a man that was apparently having a party by himself (we heard him drunkenly singing about half the night. We slept with our bags on our bed because there were literally roaches running at them when we sat them in the floor. The last straw was when we laid in the bed and looked at the 12 foot ceilings in the room and I asked my husband... reckon how those barefeet prints got on the ceiling. Yep, it looked like someone had literally walked on the ceiling. Still havent figrued that one out. Can you top this story.... we will never try to save money again... whew!!!!

My mom owns a motel in our small little hometown in ky. She cleans each and every room herself, we do have a girl that helps us, but my mom checks every room to make sure that they are up to her standard of clean. We have no roaches, no nasty carpet, no police, unless a deer jumps through an empty room window (Yes! This has happened). The place is family owned and operated and a couple can stay in peak season for less than $65 per night tax included. We also have an outdoor pool, plumbing, cable tv and high speed wireless internet.... You can save money and stay at a nice place, you just have to look around. Next time ask to see the room first. We have a lot of people that do this. If the place is reputable... This should not be a problem. We stayed at a motel like that one time, not quite that bad, but there's still no way that I would have crawled under the sheets.
