Food Cravings

I am sitting here in my house, I just finished taking a test for my online economics class. I have the munchies. I've been through my kitchen cabinets, and I'm not seeing anything that I want to eat. This would be mainly because I'm craving chocolate cake! And I want the good stuff too. Rich, deep, dark chocolate cake with a layer of icing in between the two layers of cake and covered in a thick blanket of Buttercream decorators icing! No canned icing when I'm having a chocolate craving! So tell me, when you're hungry for something specific, does anything else satisfy you?

OH! That's not good Feona! LOL I have been known to get in my car and drive to Super Target or Walmart SuperCenter that stay open all night if it gets very bad. A couple of weeks ago, Kristen had a half dozen girls here having a sleep over and they all piled in the car and drove across to Walmart at 2 a.m. because I didn't have any chocolate in the house and they were wanting hershey's kisses!

We live right off the interstate. Right across the overpass is Walmart/Dollar Tree, A burger king, Pizza Hut, and a KFC just to name a few things. On our side of the interstate to our left is Target, Kohl's, Starbucks, and Subway To the right is Sonic, McDonalds, Taco Bell, The Dollar General Store, and Chick Filet. We don't ahve any trouble finding something to help satisfy a craving!

I can relate to the moody feeling. I think food cravings must have something to do with hormones. I find that since I started the change of life that I am craving more and more things more often!

You are so right! I was at school the other day and I wanted some ice cream. Chocolate chip to be exact. When I went to the freezer case to look at the pints, all they had that was even close to that was Cookies and Cream. It's what I bought because I thought the chocolate would help. It was good, but it just really wasn't exactly what I wanted!

I really do think that to the mood swings have alot to do with the cravings and hormones. I crave alot of different things latley to. It was weired the one day I was at the mall and I just had to get smores Ice cream I was dieng to have it. I already had in my mind that if they didnt I was going to be upset. Luckly they did have it I was so happy. :-) I think mostly why we get upset to is because when we crave something we can actually taste it so bad that we want it more. If we dont get it your mouth waters for it your taste buds and your brain reacts.

You know I've found if I will purchase the little individually wrapped miniature candy bars and keep them in the candy dishes, that I don't eat as many! It's when I go to the store and buy a whole big candy bar, I will eat the whole thing! But most of the time, just the one, or maybe two bites will satsify me!

No other food satisfies me unless it's the food that I am craving for. This is such a timely discussion for me to respond to cos I was craving for a Beef Kebab since Sunday and I only got to indulge earlier for dinner. I went out alone and dined at The Cafe Mediterranean. I had Beef Kebab with Buttered Rice and a Coke. Ooh so yummy! I don't always get cravings though that's why when I do I indulge to it, not immediately but as soon as I can.

Your dinner sounds really good! When we were visiting my inlaws in Arizona, I started craving Japanese food! I wanted grilled vegetables and chicken. I tried several things to eat, and nothing worked until we went out and I got Hibacchi chicken and grilled zucchini!

Man, now I will have to visit your mom. We found a wonderful place for catfish on our honeymoon, and we have not been back. I am not even sure the town is still there, let alone the Catfish Cabin.

Well, if you come to Central Arkansas, you'll have to look me up. I promise I can find a place to take you to eat catfish! They are all over the place. You can do buffet or get a plate. where we go usually depends on how hungry we are. If I'm not too hungry, I definately don't want to do an all you can eat buffet.

I like cheesecake! There's this buffet restaurant in my hometown that we go to when we visit my mom. It has catfish and chicken fried steak and fried porkchops and grilled chicken and all these wonderful veggies on the buffet, but you can always count on them to have cheesecake on the dessert table! They have this huge bowls of fruit to top it with. Cherries are my favorite!

It's funny, because no it doesn't. If I'm craving something I need to have just that thing or I don't feel satisfied. So, I've learned to keep things around the house. I always have a cake baked at some point or another, I have a chocolate drawer, and I keep home made cookies in the cookie jar. It's not that I eat these things 24/7, but I like to have them just in case I get the craving. Namaste-Anora

It's almost as bad as it was when I was pregnant and craving something! I remember one night with my son, my husband went to Taco Bell at closing time (this was back before they stayed open until 2 in the morning) and caught the manager locking the doors. He explained that his wife was 5 months pregnant and craving tacos! The manager just held the door open and had his employees fix what I wanted. The manager and worker just nodded their head in sympathy. Both had little ones at home and had been where Mike was!

Oh my, I used to crave Taco Bell like crazy with both of my pregnancies lol. Both of my children are Leo's so maybe it has something to do with them being a fire sign lol. Namaste-Anora

Perhaps! My children all love the foods that I craved while I was pregnant with them! James was Mexican Food. Kristen would eat rice or pasta at every meal...and Lauren will fix mashed potatoes for an afternoon snack! They all three love Dr. Pepper!

If I am hungry and I know that I am going to take some more time getting the meal ready then I eat a banana if it is there at home . I also have a few biscuits if there is no banana. I keep dates handy at home and I also have this and some water. I like to have a fruit at this point of time . If it is an orange too I would love it. But ALL THESE would just be a temporary filler .

I miss fruit! I've had to cut way back because of a digestive disorder that I suffer from. Many fruits tend to make it worse, and so I made the decision to eat only certain ones. (low in acid) I love oranges, but they are a huge no no for me!

I like eating frosted mini wheat cereal when I have the munchies. Sometimes I crave leftover chicken or pork from dinner that night. I love chocolate too but I prefer my chocolate in the form of a candy bar.

I actually have some miniature Rice Krispie Chocolate hearts in my candy dish on the table. I ate a couple of those last night when I couldn't get chocolate cake. My favorite chocolate bar is a York Peppermint Patty! I love chocolate and mint together!

Not usually.Sometimes stuff that tastes SIMILIAR helps, but it never really hits the spot. Best I can do, is either get what I'm craving or else try to distract myself until I forget that I was craving it in the first place, xD

I know exactly what you mean! I have been sick with a stomach bug and I so want a Frozen coke. My husband went and bought me a slush from sonic drive in last night, and it was ok, but it wasn't really what I wanted. The slushy ice did seem to settle my tummy a little though. Thank for the comments.

I have often wondered about this craving for food , particularly the chocolate things are more feminine or what. I have had no craving for such food, believe me. Not even the other male species. We are contented with the bigger one, just two time meals and in-between some cup of tea or coffee and over. Or I am wrong somewhere.

No, I don't think that food cravings are delegated to just the female population of this world! My husband will often comment that he is hungry for something specific or "has the munchies". My biggest gripe about him is that he will often go to the store when he is hungry and comes back with tons of junk food that we don't need, and then I end up eating more of it than I need.

You and me both! I think that's why I'm what some would consider round around the edges! I'm not model thin, though I'm not horribly obese either. I just enjoy food and try to heat healthy, but sometimes, I just want something sweet and nothing else will satisfy.

It's funny. You always crave what is not in your kitchen..lol..My mother always told me if it's not time to eat, your craving what isn't at home, or just craving anything. You are bored..lol..or pregnant..haha.She is funny sometimes. but if it isn't there eat an apple, or banana or snack on something healthy:)

That is soooo true! I can have ice cream in the freezer for weeks and won't touch it. But as soon as the kids eat the last of it and we don't have any, is when I start wanting it! I worked at Target for awhile when my kids were still in school, and I unloaded trucks at night. I would be putting snack foods out on the shelf and it would look so good to me that I would have to purchase it before I went home the next morning. My weakness was salted, roasted cashews!

No!! Nothing can satisfy my cravings but what I am craving, and funny enough, chocolate cake is number 1 on the list of things I crave the most. Dont worry though, I will be totally mean and eat my way through the house until I get what i want! (Thats pregnancy for you) Dont you hate it when you are craving something, but you cant figure out what it is and you are starving, so you walk around the grocery store for an hour and end up with $30 worth of junk food in your cart? Yum!

When I am craving something sweet and there's nothing like that in the house, I'll pop open a tube of biscuit dough, poke my finger in the middle of each raw biscuit, pop them in a pan of hot oil and in no time I have hot tasty donuts! I'll put them on some paper towels to drain and cool then I'll put them in a paper bag with some powdered sugar and shake them and out pops perfect powdered donuts, or I'll also add some cinnamon to the mix and I'll have cinnamon donuts, or sometimes I'll use frosting and sprinkles. YUUUUM!

Oh, I haven't made homemade doughnuts in forever! I remember making them on Saturday mornings when my kids were little. They loved to watch them get brown on both sides, and then decide what to top them with! THey liked to pinch the dough into bite sized pieces and make doughnut holes. Then they could do some in powder sugar, some in sugar/cinnamon and some they put grape or strawberry jelly on top!

My cravings tend to be more of meat and cheese. I want rich sauces and gravies and things that are high in cholesterol. I do not crave sweets very much.

There is something to be said for craving Bacon and Biscuits and gravy! That's a lazy Saturday morning breakfast for us when we don't have to go anywhere, and can do a brunch. But sometimes, I want it for Friday night dinners. We love breakfast for dinner at our house.

When I want something specific only that food will do for me. I can eat a bunch of different things and be full, but if I did not eat what it is I am craving then I will still want it.

Oh I so know the feeling of this! Even when it is something specific, like one night I really wanted sour cream and onion potato chips! We had cheetos, and fritos and sun chips in the pantry, but that wasn't what I wanted, so it didn't satisfy the craving, even though I wasn't really hungry anymore.

Hi, carpenter5! Well yes, if I am hungry for a certain food, I will end up eating another food just to soothe my craving.. I am good for that. But, I will try to eat less of this food, because, I don't want to spoil my appetite of what I really want to eat..

What I hate is when I'm hungry for something and can't figure out what it is! One night, I ate a couple of bites of about 15 different things in the pantry before finally finding something that satisfied me. It still wasn't exactly what I wanted, but since I really didn't know what that was, it was hard to pinpoint it!

Yep, me too! Depression always triggers a craving for something salty for me. I don't know what it is. I think there is a chemical imbalance reaction in my body that has something to do with the salt

I do have specific cravings that happen once in a while. Sometimes it will be for like a meal (you know when only that bacon cheeseburger will hit the spot) and sometimes it will be for sweets (I can totally relate to that chocolate cake craving). But most of the time when I get a craving it will be for salty or sweet and anything falling under those categories will hit the spot.

I got a strange craving for ice cream cones one night not too long ago. I didn't want the ice cream, just the crunchy cone! That was a new one for me. My husband thought I was crazy when I got a sugar waffle cone from the cabinet and ate it without anything in it.
