hey - have you sang with a choir or even auditioned for parts in local musicals & stuff? those are great ways to practice & see how your skills look to someone else. also, taking voice lessons will help you improve. even expanding your music library to hear other singers and stretch yourself by singing their stuff...hope that helps! :)

i think everyone gets those butterflies when performing or being the center of attention - so maybe start with voice lessons...that way you only have 1 person as an audience, and that person is there to help you :) then from there, you can check out choirs and other stuff - i've been singing & performing in front of people for a long time and it does get easier the more you do it...but that rush of being in front of everyone is pretty exciting!
for voice lessons, check out local music stores & see if they have any postings for voice lessons. u can also check schools/colleges/churches...good luck! and keep singing! :)

I can carry a tune, but would not call myself a singer. There's no quality in my voice. I do enjoy good singing though and think one of the things that makes a person a better singer is knowing how to breath properly. If the singer is sucking air too often it really is distracting to me. The listener should never hear the singer breath.

I agree, you should take formal singing lessons if you really want to improve your singing. Like you, I knew I could sing, but I just don't know if I was doing it right, until my husband taught me how. Singing is about breathing and getting your voice from the right places and not just your throat. These are the type of things that you can't just learn through the internet.

honey is also great for soothing a sore throat, so there's some truth in that :) add it to a cup o' tea and you're good to go!
