What do you get when you mix politics with Doctor Who

A big mess! If the Beeb wasn't so famously greedy, and offered to share some of the royalties from the sales of DVDs, maybe the government would allow them in, but everyone knows the Beeb won't... So, this is why there may never been complete set of the early Doctor Who - and all because the Beeb was stupid enough to destroy the early tapes. http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/showbiz/tv/article2255640.ece

I am not sure where you get that information from Elic but I can assure you that it is nothing to do with the BBC being greedy or anything else! Mugabe HATES Britain full stop and will not allow any British media into the country. To e perfectly honest with you after the genocide and murderous atrocities that Mugabe and his government have committed I would be extremely shocked if the BBC or any other British company tried to negotiate or deal with that government and would make an official complaint about it! xxx

looks like somebody has incorrect priorites. Is getting to watch your favourite tv programme really more important than how the government treats its people? Also even if they did try to negotiate, Mugabe would probably claim it was an evil plot to spy on him/them - how would they know that anyone saying their where there re the BBC wasn't secretly filming in the country/ wanting to stir up action to try and force him out of power?

I know that Mugabe hates Britian - and not without reason, but unreasonably hates it. But anything to get the vids outta there. And, if after they get it and sell them, and put the portion of royalties in a bank for a new government, would be perfectly acceptable, but the Beeb won't dream of even talking about sharing royalities. Our local PBS station quit showing Doctor Who because Lionheart, the distributor for the BBC, told them for any other seasons of the show they also had to get another run of Tom Baker and the cost of it - and if Tom's run has already shown in Austin 4 times, why should they force the PBS station to buy that as well as any other season of the show EXCEPT greed.

Actually, they are not bootleg, when the show was on, they were British colonies, or protectorates, and so they could get BBC programing - hence, Doctor Who. I did rather like the pix of his head on Davros' body....

Yes I liked the pic of Mugubbes head on Darvos body. That was funny. I thought the artical said that some afican countries were producing bootleg copies of the orianal seris, I made need to re-read that.

The Sun's headline is just tabloid sensationalism, Mugabe probably doesn't even know anything about Doctor Who(and cares even less) Why should the BBC offer to share royalties from a possible dvd with a country run by an Dictator, just to get permission for someone to search for copies that may no longer exist? do you think people/companies should be making deals with dictatorships over something as trivial in the grand scheme of things as a tv programme (however much we love it).

lets just say that the Beeb makes PBS stations pay extreamly high fees to run the show, and to sign ridiculous contracts to get other Doctors than Doctor 4 (Tom Baker.) I really wouldn't want to give a red cent to this jerk, but considering the jerks rep about money, it might sweeten any dealing with him. And perhaps it could be honored if a better government came into power....
