The news of a teenage gunman launching a shooting spree in Germany killing 15 people in the process is quite shocking. Another such incident has happened in America the kind of which seems to be occurring there at regular intervals. Is it all to do with children being exposed to violence through video games replete with violence and killing? Why can't parents keep tabs on their children in order to prevent them from playing games which make a mockery of human life?

I do not think that video games are the reason nor do I feel that the killings are mindless. I feel that they are planed by people who are not mentally stable, and if the parents and teachers of these students were paying a little more attention then these people could have gotten the help they needed instead of going on a killing rampage.
I feel that parents are to blame for the most part. If you never spend time with your child then you do not know what is going on in his/her life. Many parents are afraid that they are invading their child's pravacy by monitoring their actions. I think that the extent of a minor's privacy is limited to the bathroom, and when the child is getting dressed.
Parents out there, I BEG you to be nosy. Your children need you to read their email and go to their myspace page, they need you to enter their rooms when they are not home and have a look around. Don't read their diary if they are acting normal, but if you can't tell if your child is acting normal or not then read it, talk to their teachers, know their friend's parents.
If you are not compleatly comfortable with the violent games then ban them from your home. You CAN do that. Play the games with your kids, you are going to loose but you will also get to spend time with your kid.

Thanks for your insightful comments. You have held parents squarely responsible for all these aberrations. Yes, they have to be nosy and extra careful if these things are to be dealt with before it is too late.
What makes our youngsters behave bizarrely? - the materialistic 21st century or the religions they follow? You know these two things do not go together like planning and mental instability.

Its horrible that people can even think about doing these things, I don't know what has to be wrong with someone to push them to this. It is easy enough to blame games and tv for these things, and in some cases they are the guilty party. But in others I think it is important to realise that how other people have been treated by those around them can have a very profound impact on their future lives, including pushing someone to go out and kill people.
It is such a shame that people can be so hurtful towards vunerable individuals who in many cases just needed help from someone who cared.
