I trained to be a medical transcriptionst and finished in January 2009. I was hoping to find a job on the internet so I can stay home with the kids. So far, I haven't been hired but other transcriptionists say they applied to 100s of companies before being hired so I'm not getting too discouraged. The site where I have found the most info is: http://forum.mtstars.com/
You can find out a lot at this site.

I'm a medical transcriptionist and I would say that I'm earning a decent income from it. I have worked 2 years office-based and now I'm currently working home-based, all I need are the right equipments and a good internet connection. But let me tell you that medical transcription is not for everyone, it's for people who have a lot of patience and good hearing acuity. Yes, good hearing acuity is really the key to success on this job 'cause there are times that you'll encounter voice files that really hard to understand and would take a lot of thinking and researching.
It is also essential to have an excellent knowledge on English grammar and usage and a vast familiarity on medical terminologies. Medical softwares such as Stedman's and Quicklook would also be of great help.
I think medical transcription is a good profession and you could get a job easily if you're really skilled at doing it now that there are many demands on the healthcare field. Just like any other jobs, you just need the perseverance and desire to learn in order to be successful to it.
