Do you like asking why?

When I was little, I used to often ask why. Adults liked to pat my head and praise me for my inquisitiveness. But really, I just thought "why" was a simple, 3-letter word.
Anyway as I grew up, those why-questions slowed to a trickle then drought times often prevailed. Why? Don't ask me. My peers told me that was called "jaded". Deep down inside, I was happy to hear that. It meant I had upgraded myself successfully from 3 to 5 letters.
As I grow even older, I am sure my juniors will be able to find a 7-letter word for me. I hope they will because that will mean I have successfully upgraded again.
What about you. Do you like asking why? Have you stopped asking why? Why is that? Do share your thoughts.

I use to ask 'why' as a kid all the time. I honestly wanted an answer, but 1/2 the time it was to annoy my parents..ask why for an honest answer then why after every answer after....but as I got older, I got to the point where if I didnt know something or whatever, I would ask why. I honestly wanted to know, Im the type of person that likes to know why. I still ask why, and it irritates the heck out of my soon to be hubby!! :D Like if he wants to do something in a different way than I do, I'll ask why, b/c I want to know if he has a specific reason for doing it his way or its 'just because' or "because I said so'. It always did irritate me tho' when I would ask why--like if I could go to a friends house for the night, and my parents would say 'because I said so.' I mean I thought I had a right to know why, and if they gave me a reason, weather I liked it or not, I would've accepted that easier and better than "because I said so'...lol I do believe I will never quit asking why. I sometimes feel like a child asking why all the time, But hey, I like knowing and understanding things.

Haha, looks like I really was one good kid. I didn't ask to irritate or annoy my parents.

I used to ask why a lot when I was younger. I know I did. I'd ask people to the point of driving them crazy. Today, I still like to ask why. I'm very curious about things. About everything really. It's just nice to know. I like to ask and find the answers to questions. I tend to ask my partner why a lot too. I know she gets annoyed sometimes and sometimes I do it to be annoying because I know it frustrates her. Other times though, I really am curious and would enjoy a better answer than what I am given.

Why are you asking this question? I don't like it. Yes, I do not like asking why. I have been conditioned from young not to ask why. Now I know why. Because the adults then can never answer my question. Now when I am posed with the same why question, I do not like it either. It makes my head bigger. whyaskq? get it?

Why is a question every body asked. But there are answers to the many questions on it. At any rate why we are here at mylot, why we respond to each one, why do we live, why do we exists, some has not been answered. But all questions has its own answer.

I still asked why so I guess I only upgraded one letter and that is to pest. I am always wanting to know what and why still. I guess as some get older they just start either figuring it out on their own or just don't care about it anymore to ask. But Me, I still ask why about some stuff not as much as a little kid but I feel that it helps me to ask why sometimes.

Your adults were much more patient then me at least, as I have grown up I do ask why but people say that I should not ask it so much as it gets ambarrassing. I now as a mother answer many why questions and I tell you I am not as patient as your adults. Infact as we mature many why's do not have any answers and people tell you to let it be, but I feel asking why still is the mark of innocence inside you. It shows basic honesty still survives inside you somewhere.

I think "embarrassing" because they don't know the answers.

Uuw, very insightful . . . I just took a parenting class. They said that kids who ask why have a reason for asking. We as parents really need to tell them why, or at least try to. I have a better understanding of my teen. He still has a lot of why's. Unfortunately, I don't have all the answers. Oy!

As a child, I probably did ask why, but now I don't ask why.
Why? you may ask? Well, I will tell you why.
One, I am older, as I think that I have already mentioned, or maybe
that was you..who knows, I am too lazy to look up and read..lol
Oh yes, One, I am older and probably already KNOW why, so why ask.
and Two, I am older and don't really care why anymore.
And don't be asking me why either, because I am most likely just going
to look at you with a blank stare.
The End.

LOL You could have fooled me that you have outgrown asking why wizzy! lol I do sometimes just reply why to everything my kids say - they get quite frustrated as every answer is greeted with why from me - it is so good to get revenge on them though! lol I am sure as I get older I will regress ever more towards childhood and I cannot wake! lol xxx

I certainly do. I believe that it is the most essential question to ask, as it probes deeper into the reason behind every act or thing and its main aim is to seek for answers, which could potentially lead to progress in every human endeavor.
One of my more sensible professors told me once that, in life, what matters most is the why and not the how. By knowing the why--the motive power or purpose behind the action, if you will--the how or the process by which you can ultimately attain your goal will naturally eventually follow.
Even when I know that it runs counter to Lockheed Martin's slogan in one of its commercials, which claim that "it's the how," I still feel that why is the most important question to ask in life.
Have a grand time and Happy myLotting, lordwarwizard!

Hi wizzy,
When I was little, I guess I did. I was just as curious as a regular kid but I tend to investigate on my own instead of asking. That's how I discovered a lot of things by myself.
I think I have brought that attitude to the present. I really don't ask a lot of "why's". I just respect that they are there for a reason and no use tinkering with things. And yes, I kind of lied-low on being inquisitive.

It is an extreme act of self-restraint not to say "I told you so".

Yea. I love asking Why. However, I only ask people whom I am comfortable with ie. my family and friends. As for people I am not comfortable with, ie. most of my school teachers, I hardly ask them Why. The only teacher I really like was my JC Chemistry teacher. She's very dedicated and caring and I can feel her passion for teaching. I often asked her questions and this had helped my Chemistry grades a lot.

When I have a doubt that keeps niggling in the back of my mind then I just MUST ask 'why' or I will go bonkers
Sometimes I fear before eventually plucking up enough courage to ask the question that is bugging me... despite my age
