Whiskers has to go to the vet

I have to take my almost one year old kitty to the vet today. The poor thing has been very lethargic and VERY warm for the last few days. He's always been a "warm" kitty. But he's almost hot to the touch like he has a fever. He's usually the most active kitty in the house...to the point that we have to watch our feet as he has this habit of running 9-0 right under them when we're in mid step. And the poor little guy hasn't been active at all lately. And I checked his gums last night, and instead of being all nice and pink, they are a very dark gray. He's perked up a little bit in the last couple of days, and he's been eating and drinking the whole time (just not as much as usual). But 98% of the time he's laying either on my bed or on top of the washing machine. I'm so worried about my baby boy. I really hope it's nothing major. I'm actually hoping that all it is is the same thing that my cat Prance gets every once in a while. She gets what the vet calls "a fever of unknown origin". No infection to be found or anything like that. The fever just pops up out of the blue. Hopefully that's all that Whiskers has and he will be back to himself in no time. Please keep your fingers crossed, pray, or whatever it is you do for the positive to happen, that my baby will be ok. Thank you everyone. Big hugs to all......Carryl

Yeah...Whiskers needs to get snipped too. Preferably before he decides to start spraying. ICK! I have to get his sister in too to be spayed because I didn't get her in before her heat hit, and I really don't want any more kitties....13 is definitely more than enough. LOL! Thanks hon. Good luck with your furbaby. Please give him loves for me.

Actually, surprisingly enough, it wasn't Prance this time...it was one of the kittens...Whiskers. And he's doing better. He was tested for feline leukemia and it was negative, which was a BIG relief to me. He's on antibiotics for an infection in his blood. So he should be back to his old self in no time. Thanks hon. HUGS!

Hopefully Whiskers will soon be feeling better. My favorite cat Jade was so sick last month over a weekend I thought I was going to lose her. But luckily after a couple of days of babying her she perked up and is doing fine now. I hope your vet can figure out the problem and treat him quickly for you. Good luck to you and Whiskers.

Thanks hon. I'm so glad your baby made it through her sickness too. Whiskers is doing much better now. He got a super shot of antibiotics and I have to give him more twice a day until it's gone. They tested him for leukemia and it came up negative. That was a BIG relief to me. Thanks again hon.

Poor baby! I hope he's ok. I remember my cats running fevers of 'unknown origin' when they were younger. It was worrying and frustrating because I never knew what caused them. The vet usually prescribed an antibiotic just to be on the safe side. You must have gone to the vet already....how did poor Whiskers make out?

Yes we went to the vet right after I posted this discussion. Whiskers was first tested for feline leukemia and it was negative, thank God! He has an infection in his blood so he's on Clavamox now. He was given a 'super shot' of antibiotics by the vet too and he's already perking up. I feel like I can breathe now. Thanks so much hon. I know what you mean about the frustration and worry....I was definitely feeling both myself.

I know what you mean. It was like only 2 hours from when I called until Whiskers saw the vet. MY doc wouldn't get me in that fast....it would be the next day at the very least. LOL

That's a big relief! I don't like anyone's pets to feel ill. Sick pets are like sick babies/young children. You know they're sick, but they can't tell you what hurts. One advantage for pets though, is that vets can fit them in for an appointment faster than most human doctors.

I will pray for your whiskers, as one cat lover to another. I really hope it is nothing serious. Being only one, that is young, so take care of him and let us know what the vet says! Poor thing!

Fortunately he just needed a good dose of antibiotics. Plus I have to give him more antibiotics twice a day until the bottle is finished. Turns out he had an infection in his blood, but it wasn't anything life threatening. So he's doing pretty good now. Still a bit tired and dehydrated, but he's working his way back to his ornery self. LOL! BTW, thanks for the friend request...I added you already.

I hope you precious furry baby feels better soon. Hopefully the vet can find something simple wrong with him to fix. My kittygirl likes to sleep between the couch and the wall by the heat vent. Or in the cupboard above the refrigerator. 13 kitties is definitely plenty!

He is actually starting to feel better already. The vet gave Whiskers a 'supershot' of antibiotics at the appointment and it seemed to kick in pretty quickly. He's not back to his playful self yet, but he's definitely perking up. My cats find all sorts of interesting spots to sleep in. Last night I went to put clothes in the washing machine and fortunately I looked first before plopping the clothes in. I had left the lid open and my fat cat Fluffy decided to fit herself in around the agitator. I was so tired I didn't think to grab the camera either darn it! LOL

Thanks hon. I don't know if you saw it already or not, but I posted an update late last night. He's doing so much better now. He was actually running around a bit this morning. But I think it wore him out because he's snoozing in the chair next to me. Thank God he doesn't have feline leukemia. I was so scared about that. My friend had to have her kitty put to sleep because he was so far gone from the disease that there was no saving him. He was like my little furry nephew and it about killed me. I can't imagine having to do that to one of my own. Hugs to you hon. BTW, I love Pyewacket's new St Paddy's day look....suits him quite well.

Thanks sweetie. I probably won't be able to post an update until tonight or tomorrow as I have to take off right after his appointment. But I will definitely let you know what happened at the vet as soon as I can. Hugs!

I've got everything crossed! I hope the vet is able to help Whiskers feel better soon. It's never easy when a pet is sick, especially when they can't tell you what's wrong. Hopefully he'll be back to normal soon!

From what I've found, grey gums indicate dehydration. You said lil Whiskers has not been drinking as much as normal and with the extra warmth felt atop his coat, it seems he does indeed have the dreaded, "Fever of Unknown Origin." I looked online for you and couldn't find anything really bad with the information you've provided. I'm sure he'll be just fine and 9-0ing your tootsies sooner than you think! Cheers!

Yes, he was definitely dehydrated. He has an infection of some kind. No leukemia though, thank God. He's on antibiotics now and they seem to be kicking in. He's actually wandering around the house now. So it won't be too long until it's unsafe for my toes again. LOL! Thanks so much hon.
