How Many Friends Do You Have From Highschool?

How many people that you knew in school are still on your list of close personal friends? Do you still do any of the things you did in school together? I only ask because I keep hearing a defense of public school on the merits that it prepares kids for the world and social interaction. Personally I have found the real world to be NOTHING like high school! If I used what I learned about people in school and applied it to everyday life..... lets just say school would not be the only place you hear about violence! I was mercilessly teased in school and taught that since my parents had no money we were not worth knowing. I was taught that I had no future and that no one would ever want to be my friend. In all the years I was in school I think there was only one or two people I could call friends.... and we moved around to a lot of different schools so this wasnt a random thing in one small area. High school was like that wherever we went.
Now people love me or not based on who I am and what I stand for, not the clothes I wear nor the family I have. So you tell me what does high school really prepare kids for socially? Even if they have all the money and the friends based on that what are they learning? To validate themselves based on appearance alone?

I had a lot of bad times in school, too.
I just graduated high school last year. I do have a few acquaitances/former class-mates I see around town, and just say "hi," but I have no friends from there that I am close to.

How well would you say experiences from school prepared you for the way the world really is? I think it is a joke when they say kids need these interactions in order to be socially prepared.

High school was three years of blurrrrrr, if they want to teach kids that high school is the barometer that you'll be measured by then public school has not only failed students but tied teachers hands with a social experiment whereby summer camp is use to make boys into men and girls into $luts. I can't understand why career recruiters are not in the high schools of America showing kids what's really going to happen, give these kids who think just because school sucks so should their life after. Find the diamonds in the rough and polish their dreams and aspirations to shine outside the dimly lit halls of education. Sounds like a government program that's bound to make the wealthly feel better about themselves so they'll make lots of money so the government can take it away and teach the down trodden that Uncle Sam will be come Father Barack. I'm going to go puke now.
I'm back, to answer your question, I don't hang with anybody I went to high school with, I wasn't there to make life long friends, I was there to learn.

Now who is kicking anthills? Lol. I know what you mean I made no friends in school and pretty much hated everyone. Every once in awhile there would be someone I could relate to but not often.
On another note have you heard about the nationalized preschool they want to institute? Yeah now all kids will have to (or be allowed I dont know if it will be mandatory) go to a state run preschool. As if failing k-12 wasnt enough now the government wants our 4 year olds.

I only have 2 friends from high school. I'm a person with very few friends, but the few that I have are true friends. Just like you, I think that high school was a learning experience, I was also teased by my "so called friends" once out of high school I explored the world met different type of people and I let go of "my so called friends" and only kept my true friends.
