I just recently started becoming more active on Facebook. So far though, I really haven't looked for alot of people on it. Most of my connections are people who have found me. I don't spend too much time on there, but friend tell me that it becomes quite addicting. Do you use facebook or other sites like this to try and find people you were friends with and have lost contact? Or are you a member of these sites so that people can find you if they choose? How active are you in these sites?

I used MySpace occasionally for a couple years. Then one day out of the blue I got a friend request from someone I had not seen since my junior year of High School. I was excited to see them, all grown up and so different. We ended up messaging eachother back and forth several times, then we exchanged phone numbers. We talked on the phone for about 4 hours before I realized I needed to make dinner. Since then we chat about once a week via phone and talk about our kids and plights in life. We are closer now than we were in High School. Its so great. After his cheerful reunion I decided to go look other people I knew from High School on there, and ended upadding nearly 30 more to my friends list. Most of them chit chat with me a few times a month, and its nice to share stories of how our lives have changed over the years. Where I live there are not many people to hang out with, so now I have online buddies, and look forwad to gaining more. I even have a friend I met through myspace. We have not yet met in person, but we have been close friends for nearly 3 years now. We randomly added eachother due to a similarity in musical taste. It grew from there. Now we are as close as sisters. We even send eachother birthday and christmas gifts, to eachother and to our children. I am looking forward to meeing her, we will be meeting at Disney World this Summer.

Thats nice :) I hope you enjoy talking to her in real life, face-to-face, as much as you do online! I have met TONS of people online that I have became good friends with over the years, since 2003 or so, when I started getting into online games and some chatrooms, etc. I have actually met two girls that lived in my city through myspace, one that goes to my school, and they both later on became my girlfriends haha. So there is a lot of good that comes out of meeting people online, its not like the person is always a pedofile (or a guy pretending to be a girl). Cool story though.

I am also reconnecting with alot of people that i went to grade school with. It's hard to believe that it's been 25 years since we graduated together. It's cool that you were also able to make a good friend through one of these sites. Have fun this summer.

Yes, actually I do. I use facebook as well as myspace. Though more myspace than facebook as I became a member a few years ago (and before mylot), whereas I only became a member of facebook sometime last year. I was able to find a few old friends/classmates as well as some family members on these sites. But I haven't really been into it like I used to be once I found mylot. I still have both profiles up though so friends and family can find me on either if they wish to do so.

I'm not really sure, but with myspace you can "pimp" out your profile. As I've been a member of it longer than facebook I'm more comfortable using it. Some prefer facebook. others prefer myspace. It just depends on your preferences, I guess.

Several of my family members are on myspace, but it's not one that I have tried. What are the differences between myspace and facebook?

I haven't heard of friendster. Is it set up the same as facebook? I also just kind of stand around and wait for people to request me to be a friend. I don't know if it's my fear of rejection or what...

I understand that a lot of people enjoy face book and other sites like that, but I haven't had a lot of experience with those sites, but they look like interesting sites maybe one day I will check it out, and see what all the fuss is about. Happy posting or should I say happy face book searching hehe.

I joined several years ago, I don't exactly rmember why. But it's only been recently that i have started to be at all active on the site. I like that I can try and find some people i lost touch with, but I don't spend too much time there.

Hi, I use facebook. I have got in contact with old school friends, old work friends and even family members. I used to be addicted especially when it had the old profile layout. I like the chat feature and chat to my friends on there. I haven't been on it much lately as I like to use my time making money online. I have joined a social networking website that pays which is great as you get money for commenting on friends profiles, adding photos, videos and blog's. You also get money for commenting on blog's etc.

The only time I really spend a measurable amount of time on facebook is when I do catch one of my friend on there and start to chat. Otherwise, I just pop on, check out what's up, and then log off.

I use Friendster to find my past friends or to find new friends. I've registered an account in Faceboot but I still don't understand with FB so I still using Friendster. I always trying acces Friendster when i'm have a connection to the internet, so my activity on Friendster just depend on my connection, and it's seldom because here's still expensive to have a connection to the internet.

When I was younger I couldn't understand how my mom had "lost touch" with so many of her friends. Now I see how it's easy to get so caught up in your own lives that friendships can just drift apart. It's great to hear that you were able to reconnect with your friend.

Yes, I most definatly have used facebook to find people from my past! For three years, from 1998 to 2001, I used to live in Alberta (a province of Canada) which is about 2000 miles/2800? kilometres from when I live today. Through facebook, I have been able to get in touch with a few of my best friends I used to have over there! :) As for myspace, I dont really remember. I still go on myspace sometimes, but mostly to check out bands and that kind of a thing. I first started myspace in the earlier half of 2005 (May I think) but since about mid 2007, everyone in my school went to facebook and uses it much more. I was skeptical to join facebook, in 2007, but I realized that I would come to enjoy it even more than myspace, as I think its actualy a whole lot more user friendly! Anyways, sorry for boring you but nice discussion!

That's great that you are able to keep in touch with friend so far away. I think that's really the great thing about these sites. They make it so easy to keep in touch on a daily basis, it's almost like you are just right around the corner.

Yeah I at times used this social networking sites to look for old friends and acquaintances. especially my friends way back when I was in grade school, high school and in college. I also used to know new acquaintances. Though facebook what I am more into is in playing games for I find it really fun and I enjoy playing in the games available in facebook. I rarely log into friendster these days.

Yes, I am using Facebook and it is a great site for finding some old friends and classmates, etc. I really like the format, and the applications are great. I was using MySpace, but they have been in the news so much for crimes and such as child predators, I do not want to be involved with the site.

I hear you on that one. I scolded one of my nieces once when i saw he myspace page saying that she was older than she was and listed some interests that were so not her. I told her all about the sad fact that there are people who could hurt her and that she had to be careful and not trust people just on what they say. I hope she heard me.

Yeah, I have used websites like Facebook and MySpace to find people I used to know growing up. And most of the time it was successfull as I've found nearly everyone I have looked for and have ever known. Unfortunately a few of the "encounters" were less than friendly from people I used to be friends with. But that's bad/sad news I'd rather not discuss. But for the most part, most of the people I did used to know were happy to send or accept friend requests.

I'm currently experiencing my first negative "friending". I saw someone that I used to know in college and put in a friend request and havent gotten a response. I was ready to take it back, but I don't think that's an option.

I just registered with Facebook about a month ago, give or take and I started it because I found someone I knew from school who was on my Myspace had an account on their with a lot of people from our school. I have since found alot of old friends from my old schools and old neighborhood. I also use Myspace but when I started that I had a few friends from my present on their and started looking for people I didnt know first and found a few I already knew so I eventually looked up people from my present and past on both sites.

I really haven't gotten into myspace. I logged on once, and it was just overwhelming to me(I don't rmember why). I really haven't been back. I like facebook, because it doesn't require that much effort and throught the info page you can just see what everybody's up to.

I'll have to add Orkut to my list of sites to check out as well. there's really only one other person that I'd like to find, and they are not on classmates or facebook. Maybe i'll have better luck on this site.

I guess you have to take the good with the bad. I can relate though. Some of the people that have contacted me, my first response is, "why would they want to talk to me?" and then my next thought is, "Why would I want to talk to them?"

i used classmates and i was able to hook up with two friends from high school that i had lost touch with and one old boyfriend too. it is a nice way to check in with people and see what they have been up to all these years later. i am not into going to class reunions and such so this is a nice way for me to pick up some old friendships.
