Lactose intolerance later in life?

So I've come to the conclusion that since my pregnancy I have become lactose intolerant. This upsets me because I love dairy products. I use to use cheese on just about anything. I love icecream. You name it dairy wise and more than likely I am a fan. Now... I can hardly get through a glass of milk without feeling sick to my stomach and later regretting the glass of milk I attempted to drink. I have read online that as you get older your tolerance is suppose to get better but I didn't have this problem before I was pregnant and now I do. Has anyone else had a problem like this? All the sudden you can't handle foods/drinks that you once were able to? I just think its werid that all the sudden my love for dairy is now something that causes me a ton of issues when I eat it.

some women get diabetes when they are pregnant but it all usually goes away after pregnancy so dont worry too much about. If you really want help though ask God to be your physician.

very true. I happened to not run into this problem but the lactose thing is now my problem. I'll keep that in mind. Thanks!

My sister is like you, TRWilliams. I believe it started before her pregnancy though. As a child, she had no intolerance at all. Now, she has difficulty with milk, ice cream, yogurt, hot dogs (yep! if you're lactose intolerant, or believe you are, watch for hot dogs) and a few other things.
Oddly, too, both she and I have intermittent difficulty with meat. Growing up, my dad was the type who believed if you were grilling steaks, they needed to be the size of a dinner plate. We were served huge portions of red meat, even as young kids... and we ate it and had no problems. Now, both of us can have bad stomach cramps that send us running to the bathroom after eating roast beef, steak and even pork at times. Funny thing is that it's not consistent. Although I don't eat much beef anymore, I can have - and enjoy - a steak and suffer no ill effects. The next time I try, the stomach pains may happen. Really makes you think about what you're going to eat if you're not at home, let me tell ya!

Oh wow. Well I am glad that I'm not the only one who had something like this happen. Though I don't wish this upon anyone. I thought maybe something was really wrong. I know pregnancy can cause a lot of changes but even before I didn't have this problem. It's been since then that I've had issues. You are right it really does make you think about what you're going to eat. I have to pause and say well if I am going out then I need to avoid this. Which sucks because its foods that I really enjoy. I still eat them while I'm at home but won't dare think about it while out unless I am going straight home. =[ I didn't think about hot dogs. I don't really eat many of those. I didn't like the taste while I was pregnant so now its like yuck hotdogs... Thanks for the info!

OMG yes! My sister LOVES, LOVES, LOVES Dairy Queen... and, in spite of the possibility of her reaction, she still gives in and has it now and again. What she does is either goes through their drive-through and eats it at home or she eats there but immediately goes right home (it's about 5-10 mins drive for her). It's awful to enjoy things so much that are potentially going to make you feel lousy :(((
I so agree with you on the pregnancy effects though... ever since I had my two, I have vertigo. I can't play most videogames (game consoles, computer or arcade), can't go on amusement park rides, can't even do somersaults and stuff in a pool with my kids anymore, without getting dizzy and nauseous. Sometimes, I get a crashing headache that comes out of nowhere. Drives me batty because I was never like that before I was pregnant. Maybe it's just a coincidence ... but I don't think it is.
