I started watching a television series, the Rookies about a young high school teacher who revives a baseball team with mostly juvenile delinquents to get them on the right track - using American comparision, it is like the Bad News Bears Meet Welcome Back, Kotter, but is a dramedy. At first, I thought it was kind of hokey, but it grew on me, and now I find it very inspirational. Is anybody else familiar witgh the show - it is based on a manga of the same name. I like it better than any serial show on American television currently.

Oh, wow. I was just watching this drama the other day. I was browsing around and looking for a sports drama to watch and I stumbled on this series. I knew I was going to like the series from the first episode. Besides the sports genre, I have this thing for those high school delinquents (probably from watching the Gokusen dramas). And you are correct, I thought the series was inspirational too. I actually wish I had a teacher like Kawato-sensei around when I was going to school. He was a goofy dreamer but I like how he stood up for his students and didn't abandon them even when they were acting up. It goes to show that even the most troublesome kids can clean their act up with the guidance from a caring and understanding teacher.

Oh, yeah. Forgot to mention that I immediately went and hunted the manga down after watching the series. And the manga is just as good and interesting as the drama. Worth a read.
