Of course i don't know because i'm a guy and i don't wear bra. My Tshirt discussion led me here. I was reminded when me and my former went shopping. She was shopping for some undies and i noticed the bra's expensive price tag. Well not really, but it's like a can buy a good pair of jeans with the same price!

Sometimes the expense is tied to a brand name, but there is also a lot of design and development expense in producing good ones that are comfortable and 'get the job done'. Plus styles and desired look change over time. Have you seen pictures from the 1940's and 1950's, of women that look like they're wearing ice cream cones under their sweaters? Nowadays women want to look 'natural'. Tomorrow, who knows what the look will be. You can sit and daydream about it though...

I agree with another respondent that mentioned the brand name on the price tag. That sure says a lot about how much a bra is going to cost. I myself will try to find a bargain when I look for a bra and the cheaper the price the better!
But in the long run with being serious about prices I would have to say that if I spent a little more money on a brand name then the bra could probably last longer, fit better and just make me feel better all the way around.
Sometimes you do have to pay for quality. I just have to watch my money nowadays.
I wish I could be more extravagant but I just can't right now.

Every year Victoria’s Secrets offers a one of a kind creation from Mouawad’s.The bras are made from thousands of diamond with usually on very large diamond in the center. The 2002 version called ‘Red Hot Fantasy’ contains 1,300 diamond and rubies valued at an whopping $15 million USD.

Now being a female, I gotto say this cannot be comfortable. I know it has been said but I guess it's the brand. Though there is very little difference in how long they last, having bought cheaper and more expensive.

Not all bras are expensive. It depends on the brand. Of course if it would be branded that would be so expensive. Try to look for a "never heard" brand and compare it to known branded brand...maybe you will be get shocked of the price difference...cheers

You pay for what you get, and that holds very true in bras. You pay 6 bucks for a bra, with in a few washes it's done ready to be thrown in the trash. You spend 26 bucks on one, it's gonna last. It's all about the quality. Though, sometimes it does honestly have to do with the size (because more work goes into them). My sister can buy the same bra from the same store as I, but mine is gonna be 10 to 15 dollars more, because I need more coverage in the cup area than her.

I wonder about that too in the past... but i came to a conclusion that i was because creating a bra needs intricate details... and some parts needs to be sawn by hand instead of a machine... so there is a lot of skill involve in creating a bra... aside for that... the materials are delicate so they are more expensive...

Most of the bra that was made by known company are really expensive. It has something to do with the brand name and the quality of the undies. I tend to buy a good quality undies too for it last longer that its cheep counterpart and it fits really well when you wore it. I know this is a girl thing. I would always remember when my sister and I were about to reach our puberty. Everytime my mom buys us a bra my dad would say why do you have to buy something so expensive when in fact it is under the shirt. LOL.

takes a lot of money to hold them babies up so you men still like them. other wise not to sure on that. but you can get a cheep bra but it doesn't hold the girls up and it can hurt as well. Have a good day

I think it's because of the brand. I can only buy a new bra if AVON is swinging Christmas discounts. SO that means, I only refresh my undies drawer once a year. Am I not a poor thing?LOL
I have to agree with kissie that some branded bras do last longer probably because the materials are much tougher than those bargained at the "tiangge". However, there are bras which are way too expensive that they are quite impractical.

It is the brand and the material they used for that certain kind of bra that makes it more expensive. Nowadays there are different kinds of bra for womens comfort and pleasure and depending on the activities that we girls do indulge everyday.
When i was a teen i wore my very first bra and it was called a baby bra. Now there are different types of bra to choose from depending on your mood, style, fashion and comfort. You can choose from a wide variety of it like T-Shirt bra ( i like this a lot), racer back bra or what they call sports bra( i like this too), strapless bra, padded, unpadded, full cup, demi cup, maternity bra or nursing bra, maximizer and push up bras, wired bra.
Bra can be made from cotton material to lace , etc. It comes in different cups and sizes too, and don't forget of course, the color from skin tone to brown, black, white, pink and more. Happy Mylotting!

LOL! Here's an older ladies response to this one. For the hours it takes to make one it's worth every penny. Nuff said.

Hello modster and thanks for the post!
I don't honestly know if there is a real reason as to why they're so expensive and IMHO I believe they're pricey simply because of necessity as majority of women won't go without having them. Since they're in such great demand by so many, retailers, manufacturers, etc. can pretty much charge whatever they want.
I know a lot of women who would argue that the prices are justifiable, but I would beg to differ because I don't honestly believe that the material, cut, shape, fit ,etc. really have a bearing or whether or not gravity sets in. LOL!
I've personally always been tighter than bark on a tree when it comes to buy most things, especially things for myself such as clothing, makeup, etc. I have never had any issues with cheaper brands and in my experience they seem to last just as long as the expensive brands. So I feel like these companies are not only playing the necessity angle, but playing on those who simply "have to have" name brands when really it doesn't make a difference. Personally my bras cost around $10-$15 and that is all I'm willing to pay since in general they're uncomfortable anyway and it's simply something we all just get used to. But that is just me and I do look forward to seeing some opinions from everyone else.
Thanks again for the post and Happy MyLotting!

Honestly most women's clothing are expensive. You can get a tshirt or jeans for cheaper in the mens section than the womens section.
The good bras tend to be more expensive because they last longer and they provide better support than the cheap 6 dollar bras.

Hey modstar~! A bra is a very important part of a garment.In
order to look good you need a good foundation to start with.
So that means that you need a good bra that fits properly and
will look good under whatever type of shirt or blouse or dress
or whatever you are wearing. So it must be the perfect fit
and sometimes that can mean that the bra will be costly if
you want it to be a perfect fit and a perfect shape. Only a
women will understand this.

Oh yeah! you're a guy so you don't need to wear this kind of suit friend... Well for you to have an idea why this bra is so expensive because of the quality and the name brand they're using. Name after the celebrity and the material used to make its quality good. And also the designed.
