We all enjoy responding to discussions here and we all put so much effort into our responses. Somewhere deep down, we do want to earn a best response as an acknowledgement for our efforts. My question is, do you check whether the best response has been selected or not before responding to a discussion? Personally, I do not check it 99% of the times, as I am too busy thinking about how to start my response. Even if I do check for it, whether it has been selected or not does not affect me. What about you people?

Sometime I get sure that such and such responses of mine should be selected as a BR. Even if I do not get I would not mind. This up to the user to select. But sometime I do check.

Hi jshekhar, i never check anything at all while answering a discussion. i just go through the discussions and answer the ones that interest me, frankly nothing else matters to me. It is a marathon trying to find the right discussion and thaen i am too busy writing my answer..

Exactly ! I have never ever bothered about ratings and stuff, just log in and go through the discussions - first I respond to all the comments I have received for my discussions and then go through others where I feel the need to respond like here, and then friends discussions and so on...all the best I like mylot specifically for this reason , can respond to a 3 year old discussion...

Hello Kiran, Thanks for the honest response. That is the way things should be here. Participants should not go after the ratings, etc. Rather, we should concentrate on the content.

No..I don't really bother when I response to any discussion if a BR has already been awarded. It has always been a practice here that discussions are recycled regardless of whether it has been resolved or not. And moreover there is no way to tell whether you are the lucky recipient of any discussions. So just plough your way through and forget about the BR. A BR is of coarse an added incentive but who could be sure of getting it.

Hello everyone! My apologies for being so late in reading your responses. I would like to thank all of you for responding here. I started this discussion in the morning and the next time I log in, I find 27 responses already! I might not be able to answer each and every one but I will work hard before picking up a B.R.

Everytime I reply to any discussion here in mylot, I never expect any best response rating from the owner or creator of the discussion. Most often, I only reply to threads when the topic interests me or if I feel that I could share something in the forum/discussion. But like you said, gaining a best response merit serves as additional bonus for me. It's quite exhilarating and I'm quite thankful, actually, when I finally realize that I have received best responses from several posts; though I really don't count them. Further, I'm not here solely or mainly for the best response merit. I also try to share the experience I have here in this wonderful site particularly to my officemates. I find it a breeze now to refer them because I already have a proof of payment from mylot which is my first. Anyway, I absolutely love being here in mylot community. Just for information, I've been here for more than a couple of years now. It's a blessing for me and I'll try to be constantly here as long as computer usage and internet connection would permit me. Regards.

No, I don't see whether best response has been selected or not... I just look the title of discussion and if it interests me I immediately go for that. What about you? What is your criteria for choosing the discussion to respond.

Hello Tops, That is a really nice way of responding, and thanks for throwing back the same question at me! Honestly speaking, yes, in my initial days here in MyLot, I was too much into improving my ratings and all and I occasionally used to do that. But over a period of time I have realised that it isn't the best thing to do. One should just concentrate on contributing quality here and the rest would follow.

For me it doesn't really matter if the person has selected a BR or not. If I can contribute to the discussion, I will add in my little bit. Just because some one selected a BR, it doesn't mean that the discussion has ended. It just keeps going.

Hello Chookie, I took a very long time to read your response and comment but then, that is how irregular I am her. Thanks for the honest response. I really hope there are more and more people like you here who participate for contribution's sake rather than for money.

Hi jshekhar, I like to respond to discussions which I am interested and I have much knowledge to share with the discussion writer most of the time, and I still would express my feeling and opinion though they are no longer found in the unresolved discussions page. You know very often some users here would like to mark one of the responses in their discussions as the BR though the discussions were newly started like a few hours or so. So definitely I don’t check whether the best response in a discussion has been selected, as long as the content or questions asking suit my taste. Happy posting and take care.

Thanks for sharing, friend. It feels good that people like you are responding in such an honest manner. The BRs are not always accurate anyway, as it is a choice of individual's opinion and how the host liked or disliked it. Cheers

You are most welcome jshekhar. I am not the only one, and there are many users here doing in this way as well. We can learn more about one another via mutual interaction frequently here. Sometimes I do find difficulty to pick a best response out from certain discussions, and that is the main reason why I still have several unresolved discussions in my list. I think I would spare some time to deal with them soon. Yeah, I always respect to the way how the discussion writer choosing their best response, as everyone has his own taste and criteria to judge whether which response is the best among all. Happy posting

I do not check if there is a BR or not, I try to go by the discussion and if there is something I can share or not. (I take too long to give BR as well, it is something that I picked alone the way since some people seem to like to answer to unresolved discussions but it is not something that I personally like.)

I started delaying my best response after Frank advised me to do it, and I read discussions about it, it seems the right thing to do. However I do not know exactly what it means to have a best response.

I follow somewhat the same route. I delay the BRs as much as possible because I feel that someone might miss out, if he responds after it.

hi jshekhar, As for me, I do not check whether best response had been selected or not yet. I respond on the discussion for the sake of responding but not expecting for my response to be the best. Our goal here in mylot is to participate by giving quality discussion. And as long as I know in myself that I give my best in responding, it is fine with me.I just focus on the topic that was started. And then think carefully on how will I respond to the said discussion.I make sure to it that anyone who can read my response can understand it.I give examples if needed just for my statement to be clearer to the readers.

Thanks for your honest opinion, Annie. Even I do the same thing, as it doesn't cost you anything to express yourself, irrespective of whether you get rewarded for it or not. And you surely are very clear in explaining things so I don't think anyone will need examples. Cheers!

Hello Vishwas, Good to know that you are also like the previous responders, who are not affected by checking out whether the B.R. has been picked or not. Keep up the good work.

I do check. Most of the times, I just skip those topics as the user has got what he wanted. Only if that best response doesn't look best to me, I'd answer. Similarly, if some one given reply as the same as I was thinking, I skip them even the best response hasn't been selected. Sometimes, if those responses missed any vital information, I'll add it irrespective of the best response awarded. When the OP got the answer he wanted, why should we add up another answer, unnecessarily? This is just my opinion.

Thanks a lot for sharing, Mr. Venkat( I hope you don't mind the shortened name). You have suggested a very unique way of going about responding to the posts and this is something that I had not thought about. There is no point in posting hundred responses of the same content. Having fewer responses of different point of views should serve better.

I personally thus far have only responded to discussions that intrest me. I didn't even know we could check if there was a best response selected? If my response is the best response how do I know? Do I get a message or something? How do I check if there is already a best response? Do you earn extra if you are the best reponse? Inquiring minds want to know!

not really, i still respond to the discussion even though the best response has been selected already, so that i could voice my opinion about the topic or add more information to the topic that will help them understand more about it. and if the topic interest me, i will respond to the discussion even if the best answer is already chosen..

Hi there! Not really but I don't post to discussions which already have lots of responses posted to it because more likely, someone has already given the answer that I am going to post. As long as the discussion doesn't have more than three pages of responses to it, even if there is already a chosen best response or none, I will post a response to it.

Thanks for replying, Angel. Yes, the way you suggested should be the way to go for everyone. Even if someone is here just for the purpose of making money, even then he would be happy responding to a discussion and not caring about whether he gets the BR or not.

i dont really mind for the best response if it has already selected in the response as ong as i am interested on the topic and i can give more information to the owner of the discussion, i dont really matter with it. If it is not close or still on the go then i will share my thoughts to them.

Good question, my friend, I also notice this questions. First of all , I don't check it too because I can give a comment quickly to my familar discussion even though I can't get the best response, and also for my interesting. But I think there really are somebody check it. I consider this is a not good thing. For discussion starter, he can't select the best response earlier since maybe choose the best response meaning the discussion ending up. For responder, he don't mention the discussion which has selected the best response even though this discussion is very well. Finally, a bad cycle coming up.
