Now that money is so hard to come by, I was thinking that it will be a good idea to save some in the bank. I know that other banks have more competitive rates than others. So to those who have bank accounts in the Philippines, whee do you bank? What are the terms? I hope this discussion will have a lot of responses and that many can benefit from this as well..

I have account at BDO and Union Bank. There's not much difference on the interest rate but you may compare other service features such as the required minimum daily balance, availability of branches or ATM booths, etc... I like BDO because you can use your ATM card for almost anything. You can use your card to purchase in major malls. You can also pay your bills (electric, water, phone, internet connection, insurance, and so many others) in any branches or through their on-line banking service. Aside from making payments of purchases and bills much easier, BDO also offers longer banking hours and even Saturday and Sunday banking if you happen to open in mall branches and they have lots of ATM booths all over the Philippines. The bad thing though, they charge service fee (P150 or P200?) every time your account balance falls below the minimum daily balance. They don't compute the average per month, which is the common practice in other banks, but they do the reckoning as per daily balance.

lol. i have plans in having an account with BDO. and now that i have read your response, i am still considering though. my bank and only bank now is with PNB. it really frustrate me sometimes because when my father sends me money through remittance, usually takes 3-5 days (not kidding at all) before it arrives. but my uncle works there so hassle free for requirements.

Well, if you don't have a problem maintaining the required daily balance (Php 2,000 or 3,000, I'm not so sure), then there's no problem with BDO. They also have remittance service now but I am not sure how accessible is the bank's remittance office abroad.

to open an account at bdo with passbook and atm, the maintaining bal.must be 5k and if you want to open an account with ATM only the maintaining bal.is only 2k..yes they have service fee charge of P200 every 1st working day of the month if balance falls below the maintaning balance..regarding their remittance abroad,i find it more convenient compare to other banks.

Hi, I really dont know much about the terms or something like that. My main concern is for saving and with a minimum balance that doesnt require half of my tuition fee So I use Philippine Farmer's Bank. My Dad also uses this bank and he recommends it for my needs. I mean it would suit me since I dont require much and their interest rate isnt that bad. The minimum maintaining balance is only P100 and the initial deposit should be P500. Thats all. Im using it for one of my course subject requirements. I think other responders' have already helped you in this. Just wanted to share what I know.

I am not so familiar with my banks' interest rates, which one offers higher income for us. I have Land Bank and Union Bank accounts. I am sure that these two banks, together with PNB, Banco De Oro and Metro Bank are the top banks in our country. We are sure of the existence of these banks, the security of our money.

Hi mimico. My bank is Banco de Oro. Enjoy convenient banking even on weekends. Longer banking hours. You can also do banking even if you are at the mall. They have different programs for filipinos outside Philippines. But I am not so familiar with those since I am just here in the Philippines take care

My two active bank accounts are with Banco de Oro and Export Bank. Banco de Oro is convenient for me because I know a lot of people there, thus, I get good service. I opened an account with Export Bank because of their three-in-one offer: savings, checking and ATM account in one. Plus, the maintaining balance of P5,000.00 for an Automatic Transfer Account is low and affordable for me. Have a nice day!

Hi mimico, well regarding to your forum topic discussion entitled "For the Filipinos: who do you bank with?". Me the only bank that i bank with was only in the UNIONBANK by E0N. When i apply for E0N in UNIONBANK, i find out that it is good because of it is only 350 for applying and for the reason of it is zero maintaining balance. Well that's all my responsed. . . Happy posting and happy earning. . . Good luck to our earning career here in this site. . . =)

Actually there is no competitive rates as to savings account. Interest rates are really so low you won't really notice the money earned in a quarter. I am banking with China Bank (since 1997) because I used to work there and I am satisfied with the service. I also know people from the branch since it was my former office so it is easier for me to transact. I also have an account with Bank of the Philippine Islands for my foreign remittance. My US employer prefer the wire transfer to BPI.
