Slaughtering animals

I am not sure wether any of you ever heard about this but I would like to seek your point of view in this matter. Slaughtering animals in the name of God, is it good or bad? I mean, can we really accept or digest the fact that by performing all these rituals (animal slaughtering) all of us really can achieve world peace? I am unable to point out the exact reason why these rituals are performed? How in the world all these are helping? If anyone can give their point of view on this, I will be grateful.

why would any peace loving God ask for animal sacrifice? first of all a sacrifice should come out of love and should be willing, the animal surely wont like you sacrificing it on an alter...sacrifice is shedding of blood
