Yesterday I received notice that I go to jury duty on March 30, 2009. Today, I called the Census Bureau and they want me to start training on March 30, 2009. Both for the same day. I couldn't believe it! Same exact day. There are 365 days in a year and both want me on the same day! Census Bureau said they would consider me for other positions as they came up or I could call the Commissioner of Jurors and tell her I was starting a new job that day. I said I would need an actual job offer. She said, "This IS an ACTUAL JOB OFFER!" So I called the Commissioner of Jurors and she said to write, "Starting new job, can't go to jury duty." I couldn't believe it. They'll canvas me for another day. I almost fainted. The Census person had told me to call back asap. So I did, I start work March 30, 2009. I hope they like me so much that they hire me for more than the 5 to 13 weeks she said. I thought if I got into the Census they would hire me for this year and next year at least and possibly next year. $13 an hour, I'm very happy, plus it's a State job I think. I have to go run some errands, but I'm very excited about all this.
Wish me luck, there is a lot to the job and I will be trained for only 5 days. Lots of questions and numbers. Wish me luck. Take care

Thank you for the congrats, I'm very happy, too. I hope I stay that way, $13 bucks isn't usually for easy jobs here, but we'll see. I think it's going to be GREAT!

Hi Heaven's Child,
Yeah, it is exciting and I have been looking for a long time. I'm hoping it's wonderful. IF not, I can stick it out for 5 to 13 weeks, if it is, maybe I'll show them I'm really great to keep around and they'll hire me for more! One never knows what the future holds. But an opportunity is an opportunity! Thank you very much and take care

I don't know if I'll make that much money, but I may be able to pay bills without more liquidations of assets. The cat is finally turning the corner back to better health.

Congratulations on getting a job with the Census. I've always thought that would be an interesting job to have. I bet you are gonna like it. And you seem excited about the pay, which is nice. Glad you were able to get out of jury duty. I, too, was summoned for jury duty within the past few months. But I was contracted to teach so had to postpone it and give them a new date. I gave them the first week in May. Then, they sent me a notice back that said I wouldn't report for that week UNLESS they sent me another summons. So, I'm hoping I won't have to go. But that is still several weeks away.
Anyway, glad you got the job!

They told me they'll try again in a few months to have me do jury duty.
Glad you were contracted to teach. Wish I was again, but only part-time so I would have lots of time for planning and have an income/budget I could figure out.
