I love burning scented candles but most of them don't have much scent or the scent seems to wear off within a half hour of burning it. Can anyone recommend some really good smelling candles (that don't cost a fortune) and actually seem to KEEP the scent when they are burning??

My candles are all long-lasting and were not that expensive..some of them are from Glade (the air freshner company) those can be effective in rooms that aren't so big..you can smell them as soon as you come into your house once you light them for about an hour..also, there is a store called 'Bath and Body Works' that have excellent aromatherapy candles that actually work. I have the lavender ones in my bathroom and they make you so relaxed and comfortable...others that are cheap are just not going to keep a scent. In fact, once you burn certain ones they smell like burning crayons..I really hate that..my advice is to stay away from all candles that are under five bucks..the better the price, the better the scent quality..

I hadn't really thought about bath and body works, I always think about going there for towels and such (lol). That's a good idea, I'm going to check their candles out!

You can also check a few places online too..I know cataloglink.com (I hope I got that right) had a listing of places that will send you a catalog of their candles and things like that. They are a little earthy, but they are good for aromatherapy and stuff like that..Kmart, Target, Walgreens, and places like that have good ones too and have a good price range..I saw some huge candles (I mean, they sit on the floor kind of huge) at Macy's but who really wants to spend 50 bucks on something like a candle? The sandalwood ones smelled like a burning house so I really don't suggest that..lol

I've used lavender incense but I don't think I've used lavender candles, I'll have to try them. Thanks for the suggestion.

It's not the candle's fault you've eventually lost the smell while it's burning-Actually,Your nose will block the smell out in time! There are some of these plug-in scent diffusers/air fresheners out now that have 3 different scent vials that rotate periodically and thus change the scent so you don't get used to them..you could do something like that with your candles..drop on some scented oil every so often and change the oil to prevent losing that smell..

I sell Mia bella candles and the scent, for me, lasts the longest and is the strongest. Thats the main reason I sell them, i was tired of buying a bazillion candles and only smelling them for the first hour. they are under $20 for a 16 oz jar, which is pretty big and they burn all the way down to about 1/2 to 1/4 of an inch, plus they are dual-wicked so they get all the wax on the sides too.

I have the oil candles and I think I need to invest in the normal candles because the oil ones seem to be gone within an hour or two.

I am a candle freak and to be honest while the most expensive ones are prettier to look at, i found that the cheaper ones you can get at a local walmart store stay smelling strong, i have had one for a couple years now and i do not even have to light it, i can walk by them and smell them...you can make them look pretty with some decorations.
So that would be my choice.
