the first software i learned is oracle, but i have heard a lot of companies are using SAP, and if you will look for a job in IT, a lot of them will say SAP knowledge is a plus, then i have heard of Ariba that some say are good but expensive. so if they have the same basic functionality with different perks and looks, what makes people choose which software to use?

Companies will always choose the more expensive software in the notion that it is going to be better for them. I think they can do this because they have a lot of money to spend. One company had SAP and they had problems with it too. This company was bought by another whose IT group knows Oracle so I guess they will have to go with Oracle if they don't go ahead and outsource their IT. Cheers!!
