What is this related to soya??

A friend gave me some "soya". he had made a dinner with it. Before cooking it looked like dry hamburger. There is some that like dry cubes too. They told me it was "soya". The way to prepare it before cooking is i had to put it in boiling water for five minutes. take it out, and strain out the water from the "soya". i was then able to prepare it with vegies etc. The thing is when looking up "soya" recipes, I do not find anything that describes this thing that i cooked before. It is from soya family made to look like meat. Does anyone know the name of this thing and where i can find some recipes for it? It really has no taste at all by itself. Thanks
