Hi, A...
When using either desktop or laptop, they get hot...
I use a laptop, too. And it is on for like 12 hours a day or more sometimes =P
but I aided with a cooling fan underneath it and also my own fan to keep the temperature down and won't damage your motherboard or toast the processor... if you don't have a cooling fan for a laptop, why not try putting your laptop on a makeshift stable rack an inch high from the table you're using. So that air can pass through the bottom of your laptop to keep it from getting hotter... ^_^

All computers do heat up, either desktop or laptop. However if your inside an airconditioned room the temperature is likely lower than when your operating at room temperature. Laptops tend to get hotter faster than desktop computers because of the smaller built in fans on the laptop. And the slim compact body of it makes heat dissipation slowers as compared to a desktop computer. There are some peripherals you can add to your laptop to dissipate heat like a blower fan made specially for laptops. It has a dual fan motor which can be attached to the back of the laptop. Some home remedies will help too like directing an electirc fan toward your laptop. laptops are made only to operate in short periods they are not made to operate for 12 hrs or 24hrs. try to let it have a break for a few hours to cool off.

that's what I said lol... my own laptop has built in fan to keep the mobo and processor and other components for that matter. I don't really use my latop the entire 12 hours mind you but I do turn it off for an hour and half cuz wanted to take good care of it. and yes I do use my colling fan at the same time with my electric fan.

I did not have such experience, but I think it is not normal. My suggestion is you should ask someone who is good at this to check the computer!

Currently I am using a laptop produced by Acer. When it works for a very long time, it will turns hot. I think the most efficient way to cool it is stoping using it for a short while. Laptop is different from the desktop, there is no fan to cool itself. Thus, 12 hours one day do make it turn hot and may shorten its' lifecycle. I often use it for about 5 hours and just put it there without turning it off. In most cases, turning hot will not hurt the computer itself.
