if you are going to the gym, don't use the treadmills unless it is raining outside or you are doing a cardio session after your workout.i go gym to mostly use the weights there to build muscle.no point using the machines as they will only 'help' you.try running outside in the open environment as it simulates reality better than running on a treadmill in an air-conditioned room.

If you use the treadmill, bikes and elliptical like they should be used, you can burn calories, and build up muscle. Weights are fine if you are working on strength training. As for running outside, that is okay for some people, but if they have any type of knee or ankle issues then running on the hard concrete, ie. sidewalks, streets, etc. it can do more damage than good.

If you are going to a gym and you stated you just started, ask one of the personnel there to help you. They will be able to tell you how to get started. The main thing is you don't want to just jump into running if you haven't been doing any kind of workout. Start by walking, up the pace and incline a little at a time. As to what your heart rate should be while running, that depends on you weight and age. I'm not sure what type of treadmill you are using, does it have electronic monitoring on it? Can you enter your weight and length of time for workout? The best thing to do is to ask one of the personnel or trainers to help you get started.

Have you been doing any exercise prior to joining the gym? That will make a difference on where you should start your workout on the treadmill.

Hey good for you. I just got a treadmill at my house and use it everyday. I walk at least 2 to 5 miles daily on it. I go slow but at a higher income like I go 2.4 miles per hour and about an 8 income. if your trying to loose more calories do what I do go slower or at your own pace and go at a high income since the higher income you loose more calories then going faster.

Gym is always good for health and control over weight and treadmill is the basic exercise in workout. If you have any heart problem then it is not recommended otherwise it is ok to do.there are electronic treadmill in advanced gym that it can be set according to your heart rate.
