Why Why Why!?! Does anyone understand why people plagarize online?

I am trying to understand why plagiarism is so prevalent online. I know that plagiarism hurts the plagiarizer in search engines, so how do they benefit? Are they just trying to make a few extra cents? Aren't there better ways to make money? Does anyone know what plagiarizers think they will gain? Thanks for your help!

The only thing I can think of is that they think the other person wrote it better and more effectively than they can. It's really a complement to the original writer.

We had to ban a member of my writing forum for what we called "pseudo-plagiarism". What she did was take a scene and change it to her characters. For instance I had written a scene where a battle takes places. Next thing you know she's got a battle going with her characters too. It was a little too close and the owner of the forum banned her.
Not everyone can write, but everyone can copy. Not that they should, but some people have no scruples.

Because it's easy. After all most people know how to copy paste. Also sometimes they're just not good enough on their own to write decent articles (or get their own pictures/ vids/ etc...).
Some don't know what they're doing is wrong; some don't think they can get caught; some think the precautions they take will stop them from being caught (Some people go to great lengths to hide that they stole an article but I still manage to catch them sometimes).
They'll get a few cents, and if the sites they're on have fairly high minimum payouts, they'll probably get kicked out before they get to even cash out their payment.
I find that writing sites with lower minimums attract plagiarizers more. After all, they might actually get a payout before they get kicked out, and then they can just make a new account and do it all over.

Not really sure of the exact reason why people plagiarize, so we can only speculate. But just imagine putting yourself into their shoes, what would be the reason you would want to plagiarize? I can think of a few. Firstly, it is actually quite difficult to come up with our own ideas, put them into words and then having to structure them so that the meaning is clear and concise in order that people understand them. Thus, wouldn't it be easier to get someone else's ideas or words and just re-post it and get all the monetary benefits without having to go through all the hassle? Secondly, plagiarizers think they can get away with their act, thinking that no one will find out. That's just exactly equivalent to people who resort to committing crime for their benefits. Unfortunately, justice always prevails and it will be found out some day or other. Just as a conclusion, there might be other reasons why people plagiarize; but one thing's for sure, plagiarism doesn't help anyone, is illegal and can be stamped out if everyone takes the initiative to check and read thoroughly the information they read.

While it is true plagiarised articles do rank lower on search engines, I assume their reasoning is that plagiarised content is better than no content, or they just simply don't know. I have also seen plagiarised content on MyLot, where since search engine rankings doesn't matter for the plagiariser, he/she probably thinks it's an easy way to earn a few cents.
I have had my articles plagiarised before, but luckily for me, I haven't encountered too many problems when having them taken down. One was taken down after I left a comment on the plagiarised article after failing to find any other way to contact the blog owner. Another was taken down when I contacted the publishing network directly.

online plagarism is very easy. one has to visit a search engine and copy finally paste. this is time saving. the other factors that could lead to plagiarism are lack of awareness, knowledge and ideas. people copy from other web sites and paste it on their space to augment their points.
by copying one loses the purpose of being a part of a discussion. sometimes it is required to check your knowledge before publishing it online. for this one can consult other web articles, but this does not mean that one should save time and mental taxation by copying the things.

It's all about making a few cents or dollars without any effort. They think they won't get caught. WRONG!
I've had two instances of this: one is a Chinese website that stole one of my articles. I can't do much about that except keep harassing him to take it down.
The other was an article on Helium that someone posted to Associated Content. When I submitted it, I got the "you stole this" email from them, so I sent them all the details of how it was, in fact, mine. Within a day, they'd closed his account and banned him. Stupid idiot didn't even bother to run it through Spinner or something - just posted it exactly the same.

I dont know why they do this. I think its so wrong! Write your own stuff, stop copying other people! I guess they are just trying to make a quick buck and are to lazy to come with there own ideas.
