I have a desktop and a laptop. If I wanted to transfer something from my desktop into my laptop files, pictures, or something I downloaded from the web, could that be done?
I am not a real savvy person when it comes to computers, so when explaining, please use plain and simple terms – if indeed this can be done
Thanks

the easiest way is to to buy a usb pen drive and copy your files using it. Or if you have internet on both computers you can send them through msn! It is really fast when both computers are in the same network.

Thanks for your responses. For whoever asked about it - - I have plain old dialup internet.
Most of what has been offered, is all ‘greek’ to me, but thanks any way.
I though I might be able to go the route of using the “remote assistance” feature on my computer.
And – I didn’t mention that I am vision impaired, so plugging and unplugging things in can be a real challenge.
Thanks again for all of your suggestions.
Have a great weekend

If you have a Ethernet cable of length about 1 or 2 meter, connect the laptop and the desktop. Then you need to ping them using the system addresses for file sharing. It is very easiest process. But as like our friends told,if you buy a pen drive you can use it any where.

Well if you want to transfer your data from your computer to your laptop then you can either purchase a Pen Drive (Flash Drive or Thumb Drive).
They are plug and play devices. You don't have to install any software to use them.
You just have to purchase it and plug it at any USB Slot and copy whatever you want to transfer from PC to Notebook and paste it in Removable Drive.
Then you can connect that Pen Drive to your laptop and again Copy- Paste the data that you want to transfer.
Most importantly you can do this n number of times.
Once your pen drive has no space then you can remove some data and again use it.

unless they are both on some kind of a network, you will need to use what we call sneaker-net. That means you have a flash drive (thumbdrive) you copy the files t othe USB drive on the desktop then plug the flash drive into the laptop and copy them to that machine. we call it sneaker-net, when you have to move with your feet from one machine to another.
