My understanding of exposing to the target language

Like many other people, English is not my mother tongue, so I have to force myself to study it as hard as I can. Almost everytime when I ask someone for their experience and techniques in English learning, they will tell me to catch the opportunities to be exposed to English. But how to get exposed to English on earth? As for me, I think it means that I should use English for a period of time whenever I want to practice it. So when I want to enlarge my vocabulary, I will use diffirent ways to recite as many words as I can. For example, I will recite words in the vocabulary book for some time, and then do some games to test them. And when I was taking a break, I can listen to some recordings to practice those new words in this way. By doing these, I do make it possible for me to get exposed to English for a whole period of time. And I hope that my understanding can do some favors for all language learners.
