Okay so I understand that I should not smoke and all the smokers out there are inevitably causing the insurance companies and the government lots of health care money. But when Obama took office why did he choose to raise cigarette tax of all things. Marlboro's in my area went from 4 dollars a pack to 5 dollars a pack. One dollar a pack is just robbing folks. I mean those people need jobs to. Why didnt he spread the tax over other things like liqour, cigarettes and smokeless tobacco. Well I will be quitting there is all there is to it. I can't afford 5 dollars a pack. Thanks to Camel they sent some coupons I used those this week and got a pack for 2.99. I just think it is stupid. He talked all through his campaign about not raising taxes and it has been less than 100 days and cigarettes are up a one dollar a pack. OMG! So what do you think?

well, i have been hearing for awhile they were going up in april. you sure it's obama's fault. i believe if some people's toliet stopped up tonight they would blame obama for it some way or the other. i guess it's up to us if we want to pay price. i don't smoke the high dollor name brands anyway.

I must disagree. Smoking is the biggest health risk in existance. Everyone who has health insurance and/or pays taxes pays a high price to take care of the health problems of smokers, those exposed to second hand smoke, third hand smoke and the cost of fighting fires caused by careless smokers.

Hi Baileycows, I don't think it was up to Obama. Our Governor here in NJ did just that ...this AM my oldest bought cigs and almost fainted at the counter...her cigs, Newport, went from $6.00 to $8.00!!
I believe it is up to the states...for example here in NJ Gov. Corzine is doing away with home rebates and a million other things...everyone is soooooooooooooo ticked at him...he claims that because we are in a deficit big time he must do what he must.
Oh well what are we going to do? I smoke as well and I bought mine this AM but at a different store and they were the same, $6.10:-(
Still I think I'm gonna have to try harder to quit...you name it I've tried it...been smoking since I was 12 and am now 56:-(
