Anyone using Skype?

I've recently tried Skype, a computer software that lets users to make telephone calls over the internet. However it fell short of my expectations quite a bit. Whereas I haven't tried to call a real phone, it surprised me that the latest version of Skype did not have public chat, an option available in its previous versions. So I had to uninstall the latest version and downgrade to a previous version to be able to join a public chat room. It was even further disappointing when I saw that you could not search for chat rooms inside Skype; you have to search it on the web! Unfortunately the few websites I found did not indicate whether a particular chat room was online or offline. In short I could not find a single online chat room to join! Did you experience Skype? What are your thoughts? Do you have your own public chat room? Promote it here! I'll certainly pay a visit if you have one. Here's the link to their official website : http://www.skype.com

I use skype, primarily to contact my clients and see their presentations. I dont really use it for chatting so i guess i don't really feel any setback with it being taken off the new version. I tried maybe once or twice to chat but I guess i'm over that kind of activity now.

I had to use Skype for work - because it's the messenger that my boss uses so he required us to create our own account in it. It's nice except for the bug - when your net shuts down, it doesn't reconnect you automatically you. You have to exit then restart it. Thanks for the response on my discussion!

I love Skype. I've used it for years. However, I don't use it for chat rooms. I was first introduced to it when I was required to create an account to participate in business-related conference calls. I also use it to speak with friends and not have the long-distance charges I used to get with my land line. I find the quality of the calls to be excellent, most of the time, and there is very little in the way of dropped calls (unless one of the participants has too much going on with their computer at the time LOL). If you're looking for social chat, you might want to consider something like PalTalk: http://www.paltalk.com/ I have friends that used to use this all the time. I'm not sure how active it is or what the quality is like but they used to tell me all the time how much fun they had there. I only have so many free hours in a day... LOL... so it's not something I've looked into -- perhaps it will be of interest to you, though :)

You know what, I just posted a discussion asking anyone where to find a chat room in Skype! I just downloaded the software tonight and I did it on a whim since I was bored. I'm supposed to write something but nothing came to my head so I was looking for something fun to do. A friend of mine chats a lot on Skype do I thought I would give it a go. I don't like Yahoo chat rooms (the only one I know since I'm not really into chatting with strangers) because it's gotten creepy in my opinion. I thought I was just being stupid not to be able to find a chat room. Like you, I have downloaded the newest version and now I know it's for calls only? Am I right? Well, that's a great feature when you already have some contacts to call. But a chat room might have been a welcome feature since it can come handy from time to time. Guess, I won't be having any chatmate tonigt...
