im just writing this post because i cant believe what i witnessed the other day now i know that the food chain has to go one and does o on so we can exsist basically but this really shocked me. now i work in a care home in an EMI unit and for those that dont know what it is its for elderly people who suffer from mental illnesses and diseases such as alzhiemers and other forms of dementia, the home i work in had a beautiful garden which is visited by lots of lovely birds of all different kinds. recently we've been getting visits from some beautiful doves and a couple of the residents mainly a female one who i absolutely love and adore took a shine to watching these birds on a daily basis for hours at a time which is quite unusual because normally they cant concentrate on one thing for more tan ten minutes at a time. so anyway last week when i was at work and the residents had just finished have their breakfast it was a really sunny day so we talked them into sitting nest to the window to have a look to see if they could see the doves thats been visiting. after a brief amont of time they all got really and excited as a couple appeared so we were all having a nice conversation about them, when out of no where a black hawk came down and started viciously attacking one feathers and blood went every where as the corpse of the dove fell to the ground all the residents and staff sat there speachless after witnessing this. now i know its the whole food chain thing but i was really shocked when confronted with this and i cant believe our poor residents had to witness such an awful site. what are your thoughts on this? happy mylotting.

I enjoyed your story. You have an interesting style. What happened outside your Nursing Home,is a normal natural thing. Most of the residents have been exposed to events such as these many times before. It will have no lasting effects on their health. Life goes on!

Living where I do, that kind of thing happens in the backyard on a regular basis. It's something you get used to. It can be a bit shocking the first time, but...well, that's how nature works. Way back in the beginning of time, we humans hunted in much the same way. Brutally and violently - though I suppose that begs the question of how brutal and violent some forms of modern hunting are, but that's neither here nor there. I am sorry that you and your residents had to see that, especially when they were so excited about the doves.

Hi, I can understand that the incidence left adeep mark in Ur mind, more than the elderly residents.Alzheimers & dementia patients will forget soon this(as forgetfulness is the nature of the disease they r suffering from), but U will possibly remember this ATTACK for long. This is Life, where Strong attacks Weak relentlessly.... =Lahiri,Kolkata,India.
