It is really strange. Even i heard that vista slows down your computer and stuffs. But i installed it a week back and experienced that vista is actually is faster than XP for me (I havn't isntalled anything in vista). I am having dual boot windows.
I am having the following Specifications,
Intel Pentium 2.4
512 mb RAM
128 mb VGA
100 gb hard disk
What edition of vista are you using, if you are using home premium, that needs minimum 512 mb ram and if you are using Ultimate you need atleast 1 GB ram.
Have you enabled Aero glass theme, turning off aero will improve the performance vastly.
Have a nice day

I'm using Windows Vista Home Premium. I don't really have a choice 'cause it's pre-installed already when I bought the laptop. Maybe you could give us a little more details to sort the problem out. If you just upgrade it from XP, it really eats up a lot more memory. Your RAM should be at least 1 GB or much better if it's higher 'cause if not, it will definitely slow down your computer or worst it'll make it crash for being so bloated along with many programs installed. If the problem is not in your RAM, maybe your computer has a virus that makes it run slow, run a whole computer scan and spyware scan to check. It would help if you would give us other details about your computer 'cause there's so many reasons why a computer is slowing down. Well, hope you'll fix it soon.

I see there's nothing wrong with your RAM then. How about the programs you installed in your computer? What's your hard drive memory? How many free disk space left? If you're having too many programs, maybe you should delete those that you don't necessarily need or defragment. Also, it helps that you minimize the number of your startup programs (seen in the right of the task bar). If the program isn't the problem, then I'm guessing it really is the graphic card. Make sure that you're doing maintenance like cleaning temporary files, registry cleaning, full computer antivirus and antispyware scan and immunization.

Do you know that vista is not a stable operating system that hasbeen released by microsoft and it didnt hit the market. It has many flaws and it makes a pc very slow after few months of usage. My friend has a hp pavilion laptop with dual core 2 ghz processor, 3gb ram and 320 gb harddisk, but vista runs very very slow on his pc, it took about 35 minute to uninstall norton antivirus from the laptop. He is thinking to change his operating system to windows XP but I told him to hold on as microsoft is continiously working to release the nest operating system named Windows 7. Windows 7 will be a dream operating system in terms of performence and visual style. I have already used the beta version of it and belive me the beta version was lightning fast and easy to use. Just wait for Windows 7 to come finaly.

no, I do not use Windows Vista 32bit, but I use Windows XP Service Pack 2. And, I think Windows Vista is less compatible with the graphics card you have. You need a driver that is compatible with graphics cards that you have, and the size of 1gb of RAM required for Windows Vista. Which makes your computer is slow because of problems compatiblity the hardware and software.

oh i think is my graphic card slow .. cause my processor running at 3gb ,ram 2gb , hard disk 180gb . still got 100gb left. my graphic 128mb ,and vista scan ,told me my graphic slow.. so i thought 128mb should be enough.
normally have to get greater than recommended speed the better...

Vista looks awsome and can do cool things, but generally, the flashier something is the more memory and things it uses up. If I was running XP on my laptop, I'd have a ton of free space, but because of Vista, it's taking up most of my computers resources. Vists's a beast lol.
My laptop was one of the top ones a few years ago when Vista was new, if you forget the hardcore gamers laptops, and mine could've run a little faster from the beginning, even out of the box.
Windows 7 is coming soon, though, which is Microsoft's replacement for Vista. It's supposed to run faster than Vista, and looks about the same. There'a actually a free Beta copy out now that you can download, but I wouldn't recommend it until they work out some of the bugs.
