Born without a cervix or uterus.

I've been worried about my younger sister, who hasn't called or emailed me about her doctor's appointment yesterday. She is 17 years old, and has never had her menstrual cycle. She had went to the doctor, and they gave her a pill that is supposed to make her cycle start. I guess it didn't work because my mom said that she was supposed to have a sonogram yesterday, and that the doctor said that some girls are just born without a cervix or uterus. I did a little bit of research about it on the internet because I had never heard of that. It's actually fairly common, occurring in 1 out of every 4000 girls. I just feel so bad for her if this is the case. She would only be able to have children by in vitro fertilization of a surrogate mother. I just really hope that she calls and lets me know how she's doing. She lives with her dad, so me and my mom don't get to see her very often. It's a part of life that a girl needs her mother or sister, and I hope that she can talk to one of us about it. Anyway, if you know anything more about this issue please share. Like I said before, I had never heard of this, and it would be so hard to deal with if this is what's going on with her.

If your body fat levels fall to low, or your estrogen levels fall to low you can not get cycles. Unfortunately I've never heard of missing uteri, so I can be no help there. Best of luck, and I'll be thinking of her.

Thank you. I also had never heard of girls being born without a uterus, but I hope that this isn't the case for her. From what I've read, it's during the early stages of development in the fetus that causes it.

I've got some time tomorow at school when I'll be googling (IT lessons FTW) I'll look it up and see if I can get some details for you... Also, any more information?

Wow. That is a difficult situation. I cannot imagine what it would be like to be in your sister's situation. She may just not want to talk about it. Just let her know that you are there for her if she needs you.

I've never heard of it either. I've never met anyone with that condition or at least I don't know if any of the people I know have that condition. I think it's a terrible condition - one of the most glorious things about being a woman is to bear a child, and she wouldn't get to experience it. I hope that your sister finds peace in her heart and realize that even though she couldn't personally bring a child into this world, it shouldn't stop her from rearing one :) Thanks for the response on my discussion!
