The Catholic church is now celebrating the lenten season. For Roman Catholics, Do you still refrain from eating eating every Friday? Or for Filipinos, Do you still believe that when you complete the "Simbang Gabi", your wish will come true? There are a lot of religious customs that Catholics don't practice nowadays. For example, here in the Philippines, During Black Saturday, most people go to Beach or swimming pools to relax. When I was younger, I was just stuck in the house with nothing to do. What do you think?

When i was in Philippines we do still practice those kind of traditions coz my granny is very committed to the church. I always going to the province during the lenten season to celebrate it.We celebrate it solemnly no party's. And then on Black saturday when Jesus raisen, we do just stay at home and relax and have a happy meals with family.
Happy posting.

Thanks for the response. I think most people nowadays would go swimming because it is one of the longest holidays of the year and so they take the opportunity to be with their relatives. It's their choice. There is nothing wrong that as long as people don't force other people to believe their beliefs and as long as they respect the other person's religion

I belong to the vanishing Old Catholic family in the Philippines ( I say vanishing because the present generation seems forget what religion is really all about)that strictly observed Catholic customs and practices. I still practiced what I had learned from my childhood years with regards to Catholicism, even though I am living now in the city where most people don't practice the sacredness of their religion anymore I still managed to respect and obey my Catholic practices.
I do fasting on good friday and refrain from eating unclean foods at lenten season, I never eat meat on fridays up to resurrection. I was taught not to go out during holy thursday and good friday and just spent the whole day in my room reading The Holy bible. I also agree with what the Holy Pontiff Pope Benedict XVI had been advocating to refrain from texting on holy weeks as an act of great sacrifices and repentance.
I don't attend "simbang gabi" just because I have something to ask but I attended "simbang gabi"because it is my duty as a true Catholic honoring the birth of the Savior Jesus Christ. "Simbang Gabi"is a 9 day novena in preparation of the birth of Jesus.

For me I don't believe in any religion or god at all. They only using it for them just to get money. I do not believe that god created man, but it was the man who created such thing as gods.
