Have anyone ever purchase use tires?

I have a rear tire that really needs to be replace. My understanding is you need to buy in pairs or possible all four together something about the balancing. The problem is when I called to price two tires the least expensive I got was $180.00 for two. I brought tires 2 years for $130.00. I am surprise they increased that much. I was thinking of buying 1 use tire until I am able to buy two new ones. Is this a bad idea? Can I just buy one new tire now and probably in two weeks buy another?

As long as you match it size for size you'll be okay. You can find some good deals on 'almost' new tires. I just bought a set of 4, a little over $300, but that included life time free balancing and rotation. The price of tires also depends on what type of vehicle and size of tires you are looking at.

It sound like you got a good deal. I am going tomorrow to check a few places.

I have bought used tires almost exclusively for many cars. Most used tires shops sell are not all that used. The last ones I bought, another motorist had changed out all 4 tires when one went flat and they looked almost brand new. Even used tires come with some kind of warranty that can really cover alot. Another thing I am surprised more people don't do is repair a puncture to a tire, if it can be fixed. Can you tell I've gone thru a few tires in my time? LOL Tires can be balanced at any time, at least that's what my ex-mechanic hubby tells me. If he thought it was a bad idea, I would never have bought a single used tire ever! He used to work on Jaguars and a Le Mans race car so I think I can trust his judgement.

I think it would be okay to use a used tire for awhile. Make sure you get it balanced though and I would replace the other side as soon as you are able too. YOu are suppose to change them in pairs but I look at it this way if you need it you need it. If you wait you could be stuck somewhere and have to pay for a tow and a tire. The choice is yours but hey some used tires are in great shape. Take care and I hope this helps happy mylotting as well.

I've bought part-used tyres in the past and they've been pretty good. Brand new I can only afford the cheapest brand, whereas part-used I can get Dunlop, Michelin etc at a fraction of the price. I have, on occasion, replaced just one tyre but wouldn't recommend it - the car tends to pull on braking and in wet weather it could be dangerous if you have to brake suddenly. But as long as the other tyres aren't illegal, and you're happy about doing it then yes, it's fine. Helps to spread the cost a bit.
