Do you think Judas went to hell?

Case that he went to hell: He betrayed Jesus Christ and sold him to the pharisees. Cast that he deserved better than hell: If he did not "play his part" as the betrayer, then how would Jesus Christ have fulfilled his "destiny" - persecuted and crucified? I am very interested in others' view on this.

Judas deserves heaven. So do all those who literally crucified Jesus because if they did not crucify, then Jesus could not become the saviour of humanity. Life itself is such. If one thing has to exist, its opposite polarity has to exist. If there be a good and efficient policeman, then there have to be good number of dishonest crooks to make the policeman efficient. It would be absurd on the part of God to send the policeman to heaven, but the crooks to hell. Therefore, each person does go to heaven- no matter how sinful you have been. Your actions , however bad, have helped somebody else to achieve something high, to do something good.

that's definitely something to ponder on... Related to the discussion, but almost totally different question: so do you think Hitler deserves heaven as well? Even with the holocaust under his belt?

There is another school of thought out there you know. The christ wanted to further his teachings and wanted to get arrested and had Judas go to the Romans to have the christ arrested. In those days, the Pharisees had no punishing powers and it was then and still is amoungst Orthodox Jews, that you do not turn in another Jew to a non Jew for any crimes. Judas was in fact doing what he was told to do. The books of the christian testament were written so long after the event that they portray that it is a wonder that there is even a gleem of truth in them. Look at the history books that our kids are reading today. They cannot even get the Reagan administration correct. How can we expect ancient books to be any better especially when so many would be christian factions were vieing for control. Just like what they did to Mary Magdellen. She was never a bad woman. In her Gospel and in others that did not make it into the christian testament, she was an equal to the other disciples and a "special" to the christ. Judas was deceitful in the eyes of G'd but I do not think he harmed the christ. Shalom~Adoniah

That seems very interesting. I didn't know that Jewish law...that means that Judas was more attached to the "old laws" that the pharisees preached than to what Jesus preached - am I concluding correctly?

Possibly not. Jesus, given his infinite capacity to forgive, not to mention his affinity for sinners, perhaps may have found it in his heart to forgive Judas and decided that he deserved better than hell. As he instructively said in the Gospel of Thomas, "The (Father's) kingdom is like a shepherd who had a hundred sheep. One of them, the largest, went astray. He left the ninety-nine and looked for the one until he found it. After he had toiled, he said to the sheep, 'I love you more than the ninety - nine.'" But then again, as you've said, his betrayal of Jesus Christ might have warranted a First Class ticket to hell. Stay positive and Happy myLotting, oyenkai!

I think I'd find it difficult to think that Jesus would love a sinner more than faithful :P at least not if the sinner is not repentant.

Hi oyenkai, The story of Judas betraying Jesus is a strange one. In the Bible records Judas appears to have had no choice in the matter, it had already been decided. What kind of God would trick someone into doing something and than send him to a place such as hell is though to to be. Blessings.

i dont think it was his batrail of jesus that would of sent him to hell but afterward when he realized he had done wrong he didnt repent of his sin instead he commited suiside i think if he had repented he would have been forgiven just like the rest of us are we have all sined and fallen short of the glory of god but when we repent we are forgiven god forgave peter when he denied him in fact he made him the head of the church at the time
