I learned today on an educational channel that we can OD on water. I would have never thought it. It is apparently caused by the spped in which we intake it and not so much the amount. The signs of water overdose are irregular heartbeat and irratic behavior. Ok..how many things cause this and would you think it was water? Anyway..have you ever overdosed on water or know someone who has? Did you think this was a danger?

Come on already. What next? Can't we just drink and hydrate ourselves instead of being nervous about how much we injest? I can't believe it! I guess the term ' all things in moderation' is definitely true. I love water! I drink alot of it. And not the bottled foo foo stuff either. Right out of the tap. I figure I need it and if there is a problem with it in my area I will get Montezuma's revenge or something to clue me in. Wouldn't you think? I have never overdosed on water.

Wow! i didn't know that. I drink too much water then sometimes would feel my heart beat in an irregular way. Well maybe it will really take a lot for a person to overdose with water since we are taking out toxins every now and then in a form of sweat and urine. I'm curious though as to how many ounces or liters of water before a person will get overdosed. The signs aren't really that dangerous but who knows?

I have heard about this before but did paid much attention since It's not a big deal before, but it sounds alarming upon reading the message. I hope this would help a lot people who could read this message.

I know if you've been working and gotten really hot, it's best to sip water. And only drink a tiny bit, then wait. Especially if you're hot, do not drink super cold water. You will get a stomach ache where you want to die!! Cramps, as all us women know, can be awful. As to overdosing, no, never heard that!!

Yes I've heard of this. Remember this back in high school too, even though your thirsty don't drink a lot of water. Our coach said it had nothing to do with cramping up, it's because you can get water poisoning.

I did know that you could OD on water. If you drink too much it will flush all the vital nutrients out of your body and make you very sick. I drink a lot of water and sometimes wonder about it. Still, I eat well so I think that is a key part of the whole thing...not sure. Now you have me curious so I'll go and read what others have to say on it. Great topic!

I've been reading and learning....very interesting topic. a few years back, I gained some weight due to some meds I was on. Having always been underweight...it was quite a turn-about to try to lose weight. There was an article posted in "womens world" magazine telling of the weight loss benefits of iced water. It was heaven for me as I drink water a lot anyway. I just umped it a bit. It does work...the pounds shed quickly. I can see how someone could get carried away with it. Your matabalism boosts and you get hyper...I had to really make sure that I ate properly. It's hard to tell really....I have a very high metabolism by nature...I was off the meds when I began this ice water plan.....I actually can see how a naturally large person could get carried away and OD on this sort of diet plan.

Water is a natural diet option. People that really want to lose weight and are willing to go to drastic measures know they can live for two weeks without food but only a few days without water. This is potentially dangerous as it can cause this water overdose and on top of that malnutrition. High metabolisms are a blessing for sure. Maybe we should start a discussion about raising metabolism. It could help alot of people.

I actually heard something about this before on TV, but it was a little bit different.
I heard that when we drink too much water we drown our bladder and kidneys and they
can go into shock and not work, for a few minutes. They said that as far as they know
there are no long term problems with this though. Just that it is easier to get an
infection because it makes them a little more vulnerable.
I think it is a bunch of crap and I don't listen anymore to the things they say about
foods and such. One day they say something is good for you and the next day they say
it is bad for you. Or the opposite. Things that were bad for you, they are now saying
are good for you, like coffeee. For years they have been telling us not to drink the
stuff because it is bad for us or may cause cancer, and now they say it is good for
our hearts as long as drank in moderation.
So I just have what I want and live my life. But I everything I do put into my mouth
and stomach, I do in moderation.

Yes I knew that, it is called water intoxification. It happens because we wash the electrolytes ( that control heart rythym) out of our bodies. I do not over dose on water, but I know people who do and will not listen. They are playing with fire.

I learned about this about a year or so ago. The amount of water you should drink daily varies according to your height and weight just like your recommended caloric intake.

Hi! JenInTN! I have hard about someone overdosing on water on the news some years back here.. I believe that it is very true that one can overdose if they drink too much of water. That is what happened with this person, they drinked too much of water and they overdosed.. It was sad to hear about this. I know my limits on drinking any kind of liquids. So, from that, I will not attempt to overdose. Yes, it is a danger to drink too much of water to overdose on it..

Yea, I've read that neasea and vomiting are also symptoms of water overdose. It doesn't seem possible, but, it's true. I guess anything that you consume really fast would make you sick.

I have to admit I never heard something like that. It´s new to me to imagine we can overdose on water. But you know, anything we do too much must be a danger. Anything too much can be a poison I think.

The radio station here was talking about how a woman in some other state had entered some contest with another radio station and it had to do with drinking water and she od on it. I didnt think it was possible and had never heard such a thing. Then there was this lady on the news that watered down her babies formula to make it last longer and it eneded up that she was giving him water intoxication. If she would have continued it would have killed him.
