Salmon cans

Why are salmon cans tapered at the bottom? This has always been a question for me. I have asked several grocery store managers and they don't even know why.

Not sure. It may have to do with the machine that packages the salmon into the cans.

So they stack better? It's nice how the fit on top of each other.
